RADIO WARS: Harry Mayes and Jason Myrtetus Return to 97.5 the Fanatic as Rotating Midday Hosts

Former 97.5 the Fanatic host Harry Mayes in back in Bala on a Thursday and co-hosting with Jon Marks:
Later, Jason Myrtetus joined the pair on the phone, as it was announced he too will be doing rotating shifts as well. Technically he’s still heard on 97.5 through the Flyers’ programming, but he has not been part of the main daypart lineup or done any weekend shifts in a long time.
Two thoughts here:
1) Feels like a smart move by Marks to dip into the nostalgia well here. It feels like there’s a lot of lingering love for the Fanatic era of 10 or so years ago, when Mayes was co-hosting with Tony Bruno and Marks was working alongside Sean Brace. This was during Mike Missanelli’s first run, when he was at the top of his game and competitive with WIP afternoons in the ratings.
2) Rotating co-hosts are less expensive than full-time co-hosts. Marks was joined by Amy Fadool the other day, who has been a part-time contributor for some time now. She’ll pop up I think once a week? Something like that, but Amy has been involved for a few years now over the various iterations of the post-Anthony Gargano midday show. There was a time very recently when Bill Colarulo and Mikey Miss were working together while Ray Dunne produced the show, but with Colarulo on PM drive now and Marks getting rotating hosts, there is definitely cost saving in play here.
The other thing worth considering is that management is completely different than it was during the heyday of 97.5. Matt Nahigian was running the show back then, and the station was owned by Greater Media, pre-Beasley. The new leadership duo of program director Scott Masteller and cluster manager Paul Blake could have said no to the nostalgia trip, but I personally think they were smart to go along with it.
Now let’s get Jose from Norristown on the line.
“What up Bruno? What up Mayes? We’ve got – hockey action yo!“
editorial note: Some people have asked about the Ah Jeez podcast. Jason and Harry never shut it down, it just ended up on the side burner while Jason was in the middle of his cancer battle.
