Here’s the tweet from the official Philly World Cup account:
FIFA made the announcement on Thursday morning, and while all the information isn’t out yet, here’s what we know so far:
-The show will be on July 13th at 7:00 PM.
-The concert will be at the FIFA Fan Festival grounds at Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park.
-Micah Palace was announced as an act, too. He’ll perform on June 26th. I’ve never heard of him, but a quick Google has taught me he was on America’s Got Talent (Google says he got a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell, which apparently is a big deal. Sounds cool. Gotta be nice to get a golden award. A Golden Blog for me, perhaps… Someday…) and that this song is his big hit:
-According to this back and forth, the shows are free but you’ll have to register to attend, which you can’t do just yet:
That’s all the big stuff. Aside from that, I found this Fox29 write-up on the event, which had two lines that made me laugh. Here they are:
“Philadelphia Soccer 2026 will also feature resident DJ Mr. Hollywood DJ…”
DJ Mr. Hollywood DJ is a sick name. I think one of those DJ’s was included by mistake, but it’s a great mistake. Hitting the job title twice is nice. Blogger Mr. Schultz Blogger.
“The All-American Rejects formed in 1999 and have remained a staple in pop-rock, known for their loyal fanbase and emotionally charged songs.”
This is true, I guess, but I got a kick out of the AI-ish, non-human sound of it. “Yeah, no, I love the All-American Rejects. Been listening to them forever. My favorite part is their loyal fanbase and emotionally charged songs.”
Last thing I’ll say on this concert: I’m not a huge fan of The All-American Rejects, and here’s why I think that is: When I was like 14, the dad of someone on my hockey team (the Glaciers of Face-Off Circle in Warminster, Glaciers rise up…) made a highlight reel of a bunch of our games and put them on DVD and gave them out to everyone at the end of our season, which was so sick. My one big note was that “Gives You Hell” played on a loop through the whole DVD. It was like twenty minutes of “Gives You Hell.” That’s too much “Gives You Hell.” Got very tired of that song very quickly, along with the band overall, and that feeling has never left me.
Anyway, hope everyone has fun at The All-American Rejects show. Hope they play “Gives You Hell” over and over for twenty-ish minutes.
