The Delaware Blue Hens and Penn Quakers Deserve a Blog Post

And if we’re giving credit where it’s due, Delaware football and Penn football both deserve a shout after the weekends they had.
Cockfight in the Tub
The Hens are a solid football team, now 2-1 with wins over Coastal Carolina and Merrimack. They had a halftime lead against Vandy last week, on the road, and ended up losing 35-26. It was one of the better efforts this season from a Group of 6 team playing in SEC territory.
One of the fun things about this Delaware team is that they aren’t afraid to sling it. They’ve got a veteran QB in Nick Minicucci and he’s on pace to throw for another 3,000 yards this year, after putting up 3,683 last year. Receiver Sean Wilson is a stud, a real threat to top 1,000 yards this year. He’s already got 288 yards on 18 receptions with three scores. Defensively, they’ve only allowed three touchdowns at home and held Vandy scoreless in the 2nd and 4th quarter of that game. They just struggled in the 1st and 3rd and the special teams unit gave up a blocked punt for a TD, which was a backbreaker.
Delaware at Virginia is a sneaky-good game this weekend. UVA was ranked 25th last weekend and got blitzed by WVU, 38-27. The Blue Hens are a +20.5 road dog and played well in Nashville. Win or lose, they’re gonna be well-tested and ready to roll when Conference USA play begins.
Penn Quakers
I paused when I saw this hit the timeline:
Penn 20, Bucknell 7. This looks unremarkable at first glance, but it’s the same Bucknell team that Villanova really struggled with two weeks ago, hanging on for a one-point road win after blowing a 14-point second half lead.
Bucknell is 1-3, and not very good, but the Quakers went into Lewisburg and held the Bison to 124 total yards and a 1-14 mark on third down. They controlled 39:30 of the clock and ran 79 (!) plays. Quarterback Miles Teodecki went for 197 and two scores through the air while adding 87 yards and a TD on the ground. This was, by the way, his first college start. He’s a rookie playing his first season under first-year coach Ricky Santos, who came over from New Hampshire.
I don’t know if Penn is gonna burn down the house this year, but they play a 4-0, #6 Lehigh team at home on Saturday at Franklin Field before opening Ivy League play at Dartmouth. It’s probably worth checking up on that Penn/Lehigh score when we’re sitting on our butts this weekend. Maybe the Quakers give ’em a fight at home.
