They’re Asking People Not to Walk on Philadelphia’s Frozen Rivers
From Tom Ignudo and Joe Holden at CBS News Philadelphia* –
The Philadelphia Police Department is urging people not to walk on the city’s frozen rivers as the Delaware Valley continues to deal with freezing conditions.
In a statement Sunday, Philadelphia police said: “We’re getting reports of people walking and ice skating on Philadelphia’s rivers. This is illegal for a reason. River ice is not as thick as it looks – moving water underneath weakens it and conditions can change fast. Please stay safe and stay off the ice!”
River ice isn’t that thick, but you know what is? Yo mama! <rimshot>
Jokes aside, this is the least surprising thing on the planet. It wasn’t that long ago that some guy did a backflip into sewage-laden floodwaters on the Vine Street Expressway after Hurricane Ida poured buckets on the region. Somebody was drifting around City Hall in a buggy the other day while blasting Olivia Dean.
Philly has always pushed the Darwinism boundaries. Survival of the fittest, or what have you, but this would be one of the shittiest ways to go. You fall through the ice and get swept underneath the Schuylkill and you’re dead. You can’t root for the Birds if you’re dead, so let’s be smart out there.
