This South Philly house for sale is going viral on the Internet because there’s a giant pool in the backyard that is very out of place. Having a backyard in the city is crazy. Having a pool half a block long is even more wild:

The Zillow listing has been up for more than a year and doesn’t have any shots of the interior, so who knows what’s going on in there.

Apparently, back in the day, this was a “members only” pool club called the NC Club, according to a post on r/Philly. Just reading the comments in this subreddit it sounds like it was still open during the 2010s, which you’d never expect by some those pictures above, but people were posting pics of a pool with actual water and people in it. There are tall tales about the inside, which is just a bunch of rooms that would take hundreds of thousands of dollars to renovate. People had their bachelor parties there, and the former owners names were Margie and Joe, who might’ve gotten in trouble for selling alcohol without a liquor license. Just South Philly to the core.

In a city with strict zoning laws where you have to have a meeting with the neighborhood just to add a mailbox to your house, it seems, how did these people get approval to build a swimming pool? They just asked and were granted it:

Hang this pool up in the rafters with other water dwellings like the Port Richmond trash dumpster and those guys who brought a hot tub to the Eagles tailgate:
