“Who is the Worst Philly Sports Media Personality Ever?” Asks Reddit
Reddit user @LimousineAndAPeetzah posted a thread on the Philly sub titled “Who is the Worst Philly Sports Media Personality Ever?” Scrolling through for laughs, there are more than 150 replies, which seems to suggest that people feel strongly about the topic.
As an exercise in public service, I went through all of the responses and tallied up the votes. The results look like this:
- Howard Eskin: 34 votes
- Marcus Hayes: 14 votes
- Eliot Shorr-Parks: 10 votes
- Spike Eskin: 5 votes
- Angelo Cataldi: 4 votes
- Bill Conlin: 4 votes
- Hunter Brody: 4 votes
- Don Tollefson: 2 votes
- Mike Missanelli: 2 votes
- Josh Innes: 2 votes
- Tony Bruno: 2 votes
- Stephen A Smith: 2 votes
- Joe Giglio: 2 votes
- one vote each: Tyrone Johnson, James Seltzer, Ricky Bottalico, Keith Pompey, Pat Egan, John Bolaris (????), Jon Marks, John Kincade, Andrew Salciunas, The Philly Captain, Sean Bell, Joe DeCamara, Sonny Hill, Leia (sic) Hextall
Thoughts and observations:
What’s good is that zero Crossing Broad contributors ended up on the list. Hooray! Either we’re likeable gents or the M Lot tailgaters missed the thread entirely.
It was interesting to see the randomness in some of the replies. Leah Hextall? She doesn’t even work in this market. Josh Innes, Stephen A, and a few others have been out of Philly sports for years. John Bolaris is a weather guy. And poor Sonny Hill. The guy is 89 years old! Let’s give him a break.
To no one’s surprise, the typical names/cream rise to the top. Howard Eskin took first place and nobody came close to matching him. Marcus Hayes was second, but 20 votes behind the Burger King. Four of the top five are WIP personalities, or were WIP personalities, which suggests that the Redditors don’t like performative sports talk radio. Maybe the results are different if we poll Twitter or Facebook or another platform.
Meantime, Don Tollefson is a convicted felon and Bill Conlin resigned in the face of child molestation allegations, and they only got six votes combined. So there’s that.
Anyway, go Birds!
