16-Year-Old Cavan Sullivan Scores his First Goal for Union’s Senior Team
The Union flattened Trinidadian side Defence Force F.C. at Subaru Park on Thursday night, winning 7-0. That sends them into the next round of the CONCACAF Champions Cup with a 12-0 aggregate scoreline over two legs. They’ll play traditional Mexican powerhouse Club America next.
Scoring his first goal for the senior team was 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan:
Yeah good for Cavan, honestly. He’s always had a ton of talent, and the media push that began more than a year ago was really aggressive and probably premature in respect to the time he was actually getting on the field, so it’s good to him out there with the senior team and playing well. His brother, Quinn, is injured to start this season and there are some opportunities for Cavan to get some legitimate minutes considering how much the roster turned over this winter. There’s been fan chatter of starting Cavan on the wing, where Indiana Vassilev has been used over the past year. Indy is a serviceable two-way player who can fill a number of midfield positions and keep the ship steady, but Cavan has more upside and might be ready for legitimate starter minutes with the U.
Great story, nonetheless. What were you doing at age 14?
