The Good News is that the Union Haven’t Lost in Three Games, While the Bad News is That a Goalkeeper Scored on Them

The Philadelphia Union played a soccer game at the same time the Flyers were thrashing the Penguins and the Phillies were losing their 8th in a row.

They settled for a 3-3 draw after Toronto’s goalkeeper scored in stoppage time:

Recycled set pieces can be tough to defend since you’re essentially scrambling, and you gotta keep flipping your vision, but Ezekiel Alladoh doesn’t do much of anything there. He doesn’t jump, nor does he put a body on Gavran. Sure, the guy is a forward, but he’s listed at 6’3″ and 170 pounds and should be able to influence the play in some way, shape, or form. He’s not exactly Lionel Messi defending in the box.

The good news is that the Union scored three goals. They haven’t lost in three straight games after starting the season with six losses in a row. It’s one of those glass half-full or glass half-empty kind of things when it comes to draws, because you usually say a road draw is good and a home draw is bad, but conceding to a goalkeeper in the 96th minute is tough sledding, especially since they went up 2-0 initially.

That’s the bad news.

But it’s a long season and they just need to do enough to get into the playoffs. You never know what could happen if a team goes on a late heater, like… THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS!
