Union transfer (not the venue, but the soccer team selling a player) –

First thoughts?

Lowe was a good player on an expiring contract, and the Union are going nowhere this season, so sell, sell, sell and get something in return. Tom Bogert says it’s a $200,000 return for the U.

For now, it leaves them with only two proven center backs on the roster in Jakob Glesnes and Jack Elliott, but they can move a fullback inside temporarily or elevate one of the guys from the second team if they see fit.

But good for Damion, who will surely get “the bag” in Saudi Arabia. He was making $343,000 guaranteed over here, but will make more over there. No one watches the games and no one cares, but the Saudis pay well and he’ll probably be set for a life after playing a couple of seasons in a no-pressure environment. He does have experience playing in that region, with a couple of years in Egypt predating his return to the United States, though he’s a full Jamaica international and good enough to play in a better league. He spent a few seasons in Norway and can start in a league like Belgium, Netherlands, whatever.

The thing with the Saudi league is they went on this spending spree a few years ago and started paying a bazillion gajillion dollars to lure players from Europe. They got Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, all these dudes. But it’s just a flavor of the week cash grab type of thing, like China several years before. So the troll accounts on social media call it the “Camel League” and the tweets are hilarious. Go type “Camel League” into the Twitter search bar for a wonderful bit of Ronaldo vs. Messi banter.
