The Best Place for this Villanova Yankees Hat is the Trash Can

Apparently there’s a Villanova alumni group in New York called “Villanova University Club of New York City.” They run an Instagram page highlighting common expatriate events, like a Big East Tournament Welcome Lunch, an Industry Networking Coffee Chat Series, and Nova watch parties at a Manhattan Philly bar. They held a “Nova Night” at a November Knicks game, and while most of what they do appears to be standard operating procedure, their latest post advertises a grotesque Yankees X Villanova amalgam:
Temple apologists like Kyle Pagan will say this proves Villanova is not a Philly school, but we all know Villanova is a Philly school. The Cats have banners hanging in XFINITY MOBILE ARENA and played all of their home games there during the 2018 title-winning season. The topic is not up for debate and never has been.
This is a violation though, because of the hat. Doing the alumni gathering is no big deal. These happen all across the country, but co-branded gear for rival cities is fraud/poser stuff. This would be like St. John’s alumni in Philadelphia doing a Phillies X Red Storm hat. How stupid would that be? Nobody would wear that. Imagine Ohio State alumni in Detroit doing a Pistons collab. No self-respecting Buckeye would ever sign off on putting their logo on the same piece of apparel as a Michigan pro team (especially not the Pistons).
It’s also fugazi that the giveaway is taking place ahead of a Yanks/Phils game, the implication there being heightened interest due to the Villanova-adjacent baseball team serving as the Yank Stank opponent. As President Biden once said, “come on, man!“
Surely there are Villanova alumni out there, Pope Leo, perhaps, who will call out this abomination for what it is.
Put this hat in the bagster!
