We Totally Mushed the Philadelphia Wings

We wrote a story last month titled “Don’t Look Now, but the Philadelphia Wings are Off to Their Best Start Since 2008.” They were 4-1 with a back-to-back looming against the defending-champion Buffalo Bandits, then at home to the Vancouver Warriors, a game which was rescheduled to a Monday night due to the Eagles/Rams Snow Bowl game that took place across the street the night before.

The Wings split that weekend stretch, coming out of it with a 5-2 record. Now they’re 5-6 and on a four-game losing streak.

Since the 4-1 start, they:

  • have lost five of six games
  • scored 66 goals
  • conceded 85 goals
  • scored 10 or fewer goals three times

It’s a -19 goal differential over that stretch, and the offense has only gotten worse. They scored 14 against Buffalo and Vancouver and then only mustered 12 goals, 10 goals, 10 goals, and then six goals in an 11-6 road loss on Saturday night. Only two teams have given up more goals this entire season, so the defense and goaltending has been really bad. The good news is that they’ve got a week off, then four of the seven final games are at home. The top eight teams make the playoffs and they are currently in a three-way tie for the final spot, so they gotta get it moving. Let’s see some jam in the building, as Peter Laviolette once said. I wanna see Philadelphia Wings players rip their hearts out of their fucking chest this period. It’s too much horse shit. Don’t allow it. We need one of the Winter teams to make the postseason, and it ain’t gonna be the Sixers or Flyers:
