Philadelphia 76ers Stats, Schedule, Scores & Team Leaders
It was a diabolical season for the 76ers, who finished 24-58 after injuries knocked out Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, and half of the role players as well. That resulted in the team missing the postseason for the first time since 2016-2017, the bridge year that connected the Process era to the Embiid and Ben Simmons era.
The only silver lining from this wretched slog was that the Sixers wound up with the third pick in the NBA Draft, keeping a selection that was seemingly destined for the Oklahoma City Thunder, but top-6 protected. Now they go into the offseason with a chance to land one of Ace Bailey, V.J. Edgecombe, or perhaps any of the top players after Cooper Flagg, depending on how Daryl Morey decides to attack the draft. That’s resulted in a bit of salvaged vigor for a team that is running out of time to get over the second round hump after years of falling short.
At the same time, there’s no telling whether or not Embiid will ever be the player he was just a few years ago. He’s due $60 million the next two seasons, then a player option at age 34. George has two more years on his deal at $50 million+, then a player option at age 37.
We’ll find out soon enough if this team can stay healthy and make a run, or whether it’s time to turn the keys over to Maxey, McCain, and whomever they select at #3 overall. There’s a lot of uneasiness with the Sixers after the season they just had.
