Previously—as online sports bettors were well aware—one of the biggest PA online sports betting hurdles had been the lack of an iOS app for specific sportsbooks. Those days are now long gone, and FanDuel Sportsbook was available as an iOS app in PA at launch, and it remains that way today.

We previously assembled a comprehensive FanDuel Sportsbook review, but in this article, we will unpack some of the details surrounding the release of FanDuel Sportsbook in PA and how to get an offer to Bet $5 and Get $150 in Bonus Bets (if their first bet wins).

FanDuel Sportsbook PA runs a bet $5, get $150 in bonus bets (if your first bet wins) offer with no promo code required in Pennsylvania.

One trend we’ve seen stand out in New Jersey is that users like to bet on local teams–NJ sportsbooks consistently take a great deal of action on Philadelphia and New York teams. A similar trend should develop in Pennsylvania where it’s expected that New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh-area teams should draw a considerable amount of attention from bettors. This means that you can expect more local odds boosts specific to the Philly and Pittsburgh markets.

FanDuel Sportsbook PA launch

FanDuel Sportsbook is now fully live in PA, meaning you can bet on iOS, Android and the web. They have become the fourth PA sports betting site to offer online betting.

What have we learned so far?

Three big deals following FanDuel’s launch:

  1. FanDuel’s sports betting site in PA … will be called FanDuel Sportsbook— we had previously thought Valley Forge Casino Resort branding might be more prominent
  2. There is an iOS app— to date, no other PA sportsbook is available on iPhones or iPads as they are not coded natively for the platform
  3. It is the same app— somehow, FanDuel found a way to make its New Jersey app available in PA, this is a big deal because other state-based sportsbooks had been expected to offer different apps in different states

That last point means FanDuel’s PA betting app will feature a shared wallet with New Jersey– super useful for those folks who find themselves in both states… or spent the last year crossing the bridge to bet.

This is a full launch, making FanDuel the first sportsbook in PA to be available on all major platforms.

Betting with no caveats

Each of the PA launches so far has not been without its issues. SugarHouse Sportsbook and sister site Bet Rivers found a way to offer iOS betting, but it does require a mobile web workaround for the time being.

Parx is not available at all on iOS.

But FanDuel Sportsbook not only got into the App Store– they did it using the same app that’s available in New Jersey. This might not seem like a big deal, but thus far the thinking has been that sportsbooks would have to offer different state-based apps due to regulation. FanDuel Sportsbook in PA is different. The app will just recognize which state you are in and serve you a custom, pre-approved version for that state. There’s effectively no difference, though in PA FanDuel will have to abide by Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulations, which can occasionally vary.

There’s also no branding confusion. In Pennsylvania, mobile betting partners are supposed to take on the branding of their casino partners. This isn’t a problem with the likes of SugarHouse and Parx (which are the casinos themselves), but FanDuel is partnered with Valley Forge Casino Resort and had pitched an app to the PGCB with the latter branding the app. No so in the live version:

That’s FanDuel Sportsbook.

Advertising blast

FanDuel will enter Pennsylvania with a full ad blitz over the coming weeks and months. Deep-pocketed and well-armed thanks to 61% ownership by Betfair, FanDuel has already been spending in the market. In fact, they did it last year– running ads in Philly even when only one side of the city could bet.

Local sports media executives will tell you that the mobile sportsbook ad spend is so massive it makes up a disproportionate amount of their current ad revenue.

The figure might grow

FanDuel Sportsbook has already been running ads on 97.5 The Fanatic as the headline sponsor of FanFest. That’s no an accident, with the event occurring just two weeks before the start of football season.

Expect a lot more of this now that FanDuel is officially in the PA market.

What’s next?

We have a lot more on our page about PA online sports betting, but the big question pertains to DraftKings Sportsbook coming to PA. It’s no secret they want to get in the market, and there are some rumors they might be here by football season. But as of yet, they don’t have a casino partner.

As one of the two runway leaders in New Jersey along with DraftKings, FanDuel is set to quickly take the lead in PA. The question will be for how long they remain unchallenged on iOS… and from the other major brand.

FanDuel Sportsbook PA app

The FanDuel Sportsbook app is available in PA through their partnership with Valley Forge Casino Resort. It is available on iOS and Android.

iOS

Unlike its competitors, Bet Rivers Sportsbook and Parx Sportsbook, which have been hampered by a new Apple App Store policy that requires gambling apps to use native code for their app and not just a re-skin of their HTML website. FanDuel Sportsbook’s PA app is coded for iOS, meaning they will be out ahead of their competitors with an iOS app.

Android

FanDuel’s PA sports betting app is available on Android, but only as a direct download as the Google Play Store doesn’t allow for online gambling apps.

Is FanDuel Sportsbook legal in Pennsylvania?

Yes, FanDuel Sportsbook is legal in PA.

The process of launching a sportsbook in PA was a bit complicated.

Outside brands – non-licensed casinos in the state – must team up with a licensed operator to “skin” their app. To simplify, because FanDuel doesn’t operate a casino in the state of Pennsylvania, it must strike a partnership with one in order to make its brand available to consumers within state lines.

With New Jersey online sports betting regulations, each operator can work with up to three skins. For example, DraftKings Sportsbook and FOX Bet are partnered with Resorts, and PointsBet and FanDuel are each partnered with Meadowlands Racetrack. In Pennsylvania, however, the rules are a bit more restrictive. Each operator can only work with one outside skin. FanDuel’s partnership is with Valley Force Casino and Resort.

What does FanDuel Sportbook look and feel like in PA?

Elsewhere, skins have the ability to take on their own branding. For instance, FanDuel Sportsbook is called, wait for it, FanDuel Sportsbook. It’s expected in PA, however, those apps powered by third parties will feature the casino licensee’s brand. For example, FanDuel Sportsbook’s partnership with Valley Forge Casino Resort likely means the Pennsylvania version of FanDuel Sportsbook will be branded as Valley Forge Casino and Resort, powered by Fanduel Sportsbook.

UPDATE: FanDuel Sportsbook in PA is identical to the current offering in New Jersey.

This complicates matters when it comes to marketing the app to PA residents. People like household names and FanDuel brings a certain level of cache, so it will be interesting to how the potential lesser-known branding of the app will impact its overall reach and performance within the market.

That said, some industry insiders have suggested to us that the app will be exactly the same as the current version, so stay tuned. Either way, what we do know is that the functionality and overall user experience provided by the app is expected to be very similar if not identical.

Types of betting

FanDuel Sportsbook in PA offers all the traditional bet types, including spread, moneyline, over-under, futures, parlays, props and teasers. PA bettors will also be able to wager on PA college games, however, events with known outcomes, like the NBA Draft, won’t have action offered.

Betting promos

FanDuel does a good job of offering payout bonuses, bet insurances, along with other fun promotions. FanDuel Sportsbook PA consistently runs multi-sport parlay insurance that protects you against losses when one leg of parlay busts your bet as well as various odds boosts on marquee sporting events.

FanDuel Sportsbook history

FanDuel Sportsbook officially launched in New Jersey last September and has been one of the state’s most popular online sportsbooks ever since.

Further cementing its brand in the Garden State, FanDuel opened up a massive physical sportsbook location at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford. Paired with the Victory Sports Bar which has an extensive kitchen and bar menu, the physical FanDuel Sportsbook location features 20-foot screens and 50+ HD televisions to take in the action. It’s an extremely impressive facility that offers a Vegas-style sports betting experience.

Although they don’t yet have an app yet, FanDuel Sportsbook is already very much present in PA. Back in early March, the company opened FanDuel Sportsbook at Valley Forge Casino Resort.

The 1,800 square-foot location has seven betting windows for patrons to easily place bets along with 27 television screens and two sports tickers. As is the case with FanDuel’s mobile offerings, the location takes bets on all major U.S. sports including professional baseball, basketball, soccer, football, golf, boxing, motorsports and collegiate football and basketball. It also takes action on a variety of sports and leagues outside of the United States. The minimum bet is $5.

FanDuel has operated daily fantasy games in PA from nearly the jump. In 2015, some questions began to pop up as to whether daily fantasy was a game of skill or gambling. FanDuel lobbied hard in favor of a game of skill, yet some states still decided to ban it. In 2018, however, Pennsylvania officially recognized daily fantasy as being legal and imposed a 15% tax on all earnings. After launching one of the first sports betting apps in New Jersey, it became clear that FanDuel would eye Pennsylvania which had already passed a bill for legal sports betting and now awaits approving online sites.
