Dan Carcillo Plays for the Rangers Tonight, Here’s My Favorite Car Bomb Moment

Kyle Scott - April 22, 2014

Screen Shot 2014-04-22 at 2.09.51 PM

This post originally appeared on the site on May 13, 2011, the day after Dan Carcillo manually stimulated what turned out to be a CB reader in an Atlantic City hotel room. I was told, at the time, that “her dad would be proud” because she denied Carcillo sex… and instead settled for a stand-up triple.

When Dan Carcillo (@og_carbomb13) Tweets to fellow NHLer Paul Bissonnette, good things are bound to happen.

Car Bomb quickly disarmed and removed the Tweet.

Just another day inside the head of Dan Carcillo, folks.

Crossing Streams Podcast (Episode 2): Dan Gross, Former Daily News Gossip Columnist and Newspaper Guild President

Kyle Scott - March 15, 2013

Photo: Jessica Griffin, Daily News

Dan Gross joined me for this show. He is the former gossip columnist for the Daily News and, as well as the former president of the Newspaper Guild, the union that represents Inquirer, Daily News and writers and advertising staffers. His departure was interesting not only because he was a longtime Daily News employee, but also because the perception was that, as the guild president, Dan knew something about the future of the company that most others didn’t. That wasn’t the case, however– Dan took an optional buyout to pursue other opportunities. He’s working on what’s next, and is currently doing some crisis management for a local public figure, whose name Gross has been tasked with keeping from you.

We had a good conversation about gossip and entertainment writing, and how some readers love it and others absolutely hate it. Dan broke the Flyers Dry Island story after Mike Richards and Jeff Carter were traded, and he says that the real key to that story, which Daily News editors were uncomfortable printing, was not that Richards and Carter were big partiers (something everyone already knew), but that some of their teammates were concerned about their alleged use of prescription painkillers.

Dan also talked about his confrontation with Allen Iverson and his reporting of the Scott Hartnell and Sheena Parveen sightings. We finished up by talking about the current state of Philly newspapers and their decision to separate the Inquirer and Daily News websites from

Dan’s a good dude and you should follow him on Twitter (@DanGross215). He lost his 13k followers when he left the Daily News, and has been forced to start from scratch– he’s gained over 1,500 followers in just over a month (with the help of porn star Mary Carey). I know he has some cool things in the pipeline, and he’s a valuable addition to any timeline.

UniDiction 2012 – Week 5 – Eagles vs. Steelers

Dan Fuller - October 7, 2012

follow me on twitter (@dancfuller) for various uniform-related updates during Sunday's games

With October comes a month-long explosion of pink on NFL fields. If you weren't "aware" of breast cancer before Sunday, you're in for a treat. Not to worry, neon pink goes with every other color used in the NFL. Oh, wait.

Through week 4, it's still been relatively slow in terms of uniform news, though the Falcons did break-out their 60s throwbacks, which are a marked improvement upon their normal set. Also, the Jaguars wore their teal jerseys for the last time this season as black has become their primary "color" jersey for 2012 and, presumably, on-going.

This week, we see the Eagles play the Steelers, a team who's more-or-less worn one of the all-time classic NFL uniforms since 1963 (though with a few Batman-esque hiccups along the way). Some trivia shows up in their uniform history, specifically the white pants with the current uniform in 1970 and '71. Eagles Gameday is showing the Eagles in white, so expect to see the green pants. This makes for the Eagles worst combo, with dark green pants which look nothing other than just "dark" in all but the brightest sunlight. Dislike of Pittsburgh the city aside, the Steelers have a really nice uniform: good colors, understandable use of black, stripes in just the right proportions, and even some unique details. Sorry Eagles fans, but this is a pretty clear Steelers win.

Also, let me provide a shameless plug for my review of the AWFUL throwbacks the Steelers will be wearing in Weeks 8 and 11. Warning: Week 11 nationally televised  Sunday night game. Don't be shy about contacting the FCC about the vulgarity displayed on you television.

Lots more after the jump.

Video: Dan Baker Documentary

Kyle Scott - August 6, 2012

Here’s a mini documentary, produced by Mixed Nut Productions, about long-time Phillies PA announcer Dan Baker. It speaks for itself.

Dan Carcillo Rips Michael Leighton… and Peter Laviolette

I struggled with the idea of posting about anything Dan Carcillo said. The only time I can recall doing such a thing is when Carcillo tweeted about finger-banging someone who was later revealed to be a CB reader (chronicled right… hither).

He quickly removed (and likely regretted) that comment.

But, this weekend, speaking at a Blackhawks fan forum, which was likely attended by about seven to nine people, Car Bomb went boom again, this time taking aim at former teammate Michael Leighton and… Peter Laviolette?

First up, Big Bear Michael Leighton. According to some Twitterererererers in attendance, one of which admitted that Carcillo’s comment were mostly tongue-in-cheek,  Car Bomb said: “If we had better goaltending, maybe we would have put up a fight.”

Ouch. While I certainly can’t blame anyone for, um, blaming Leighton about anything (he’s what the Spanish call El Terrible), throwing a former teammate under the bus is bush league. Not to mention inaccurate. The Flyers did put up a fight. Leighton gave up the soft winner to Patrick Kane, but can hardly be blamed for the Flyers losing the series. The Blackhawks were a better team.

About Lavs? Not many details exist, but Carcillo said something to the effect of having “zero respect” for the Flyers coach.

We didn’t reach out to Lavs for comment, but we’re guessing his response would have been somewhere along the lines of go fuck yourself.

Craig Adams Suspended, Dan Bylsma Fined

Kyle Scott - April 16, 2012

You can get me, but you'll never get my glasses!

No surprise here.

Both James Neal and Arron Asham will have hearings with the league tomorrow. But today, Craig Adams was given a one-game suspension for getting an instigator penalty in the final five minutes of a game AND BECAUSE HE FUCKING PUMMELED SCOTT HARTNELL FROM BEHIND AND PULLED HIS HAIR (!!!).

As a result, Dan Bylsma will receive a $10,000 fine. Interestingly, his glasses didn't receive any penalty– just admiration and respect from the suits in Toronto. Nice specs, eh? Ah yes, nice opticles.* Very nice indeed.

Video of the freces™ after the jump.

*I just assume that’s how Canadians would spell “optical.”

Dan Bylsma and His Glasses: “Most of the Nicknames for Sidney Crosby Have Originated Out of Philly”

Kyle Scott - April 11, 2012

Screen Shot 2012-04-11 at 3.34.45 PM

Earlier today, in the Shit City, players and coaches met with the assembled media, who mostly asked questions that were as generic as they were useless.

Fortunately or unfortunately, Dan Bylsma and Peter Laviolette didn’t flip out and hurl shoes at members of the press (I probably would have, given some of the banal questions thrown up to the podium), nor did they want to talk much about Gutlessgate™. But they did say this:

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma:

What about all the name calling over the last couple of weeks?

“I’m surprised you’re talking about name calling in the last two weeks, because Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have been called names for a long time in this rivalry and against this team. So it’s not a new thing, it’s not something that came out of the woodwork and it’s the first time names have been used. Most of the names for Sidney Crosby have originated out of Philly and their fans and so forth.”

“It’s about playing hockey now, and that name calling just fades away.”

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Peter as a coach and what he’s done, regardless of the name calling.”

Boss Peter Laviolette:

Has you opinion at all changed of that move [for Penguins to put Vitale out]?

“I’ll probably stay away from that, because I don’t think it’s relevant to tonight’s game. It’s old news.”

But was that just an incident, or does it say something broader about the organization?

“I don’t think I believe I said anything about the organization.”

Annnnd scene.

Lavs seems like he's in mid-playoff mode. Bylsma… well, his glasses look quite elegant.

Mike Milbury Says Penguins Coach Dan Bylsma Should Have “Taken Off His Skirt”

Kyle Scott - April 2, 2012

Screen Shot 2012-04-02 at 12.09.19 PM
Does this hat make my ass look fat?

Mike Milbury scored some serious points (with me, anyway) when he got into a bitchfest with Jeremy Roenick last month. This morning, the former Islanders coach and current NBC-Comcast-Versus-mega-conglomerate analyst was a guest on the WIP Morning Show, where he gave Angelo, Al and Rhea his thoughts on the yesterday’s melee in Pittsburgh.

Two highlights. [transcriptions via Spike Eskin, CBSPhilly

On Dan Bylsma:

“I can remember being on such a perch, or at least trying to climb over the boards to get at somebody to make a point. And I thought Dan Bylsma should have taken off his skirt and gone over there.”

I don’t know about his skirt, but he certainly should have removed his dainty reading glasses. Instead, he hid behind Peter Laviolette’s former Team USA teammate, Tony Granato.

On Sidney Crosby:

“So you know, Crosby gets cross-checked, big whoop. He said after he came back from his 35th concussion, ‘I’m not going to do this anymore, I’m not going to get into this scrums, I’m going to stay away from that stuff.’ He couldn’t help himself because there’s a little punk in Crosby. He’s not the perfect gentleman. He’s not the sweet kid you see in interviews with his hat pulled down over his eyes. I’d say screw him, hit him.”

Good point. And you know, you can’t spell Crosby without “cry.”
