DraftKings Sportsbook Has Released Betting Odds and Splits for the Home Run Derby

Joe DiProsperos - July 8, 2019

With the 2019 Home Run Derby finally upon us, DraftKings Sportsbook has released their odds along with betting splits up to this point:

% Handle
% Bets
Josh Bell
Pete Alonso
Vladimir Guerrero Jr
Matt Chapman
Joc Pederson
Alex Bregman
Carlos Santana
Ronald Acuna Jr

As you can tell, a good majority of both the bets and the handle have gone towards Mets rookie Pete Alonso.

Rookies have generally not fared well in the Home Run Derby, with 5 of the last 7 rookies to participate in it losing in the first round. But Alonso, who is receiving 31% of the bets and 40% of the money at DraftKings Sportsbook, is currently second in the league in home runs and certainly has the exit velocity to compete.

Josh Bell is the favorite for a reason. He is tops among all Derby competitors in average exit velocity (93.3 MPH), balls hit over 95 MPH, and longest home run distance (473). He also happens to be the only player in Pirates history to hit two home runs out of PNC Park into the neighboring Allegheny River on the fly.

Despite not garnering as much betting interest as other competitors, Alex Bregman and Joc Pederson could have some serious value. Both have Home Run Derby experience, with Pederson having finished second in 2015 and Bregman being a 2018 participant. Their odds have also dropped somewhat of late, so if your looking for possibly the best potential betting value, they might be your best option.

In addition, Ronald Acuna Jr has a lot of potential value as well. He boasts the longest average home run distance of all Derby competitors (422 ft) as well as being in the top half of the league in average fly ball distance. He is also second among competitors in barrels-per-swing.

New users can get their first bet matched up to $500 at DraftKings Sportsbook right here .

If you want to read more in-depth coverage of the Derby, we recently composed a betting guide that you can find here.

He’s won the event three times in his career, but hasn’t done so since 2008. DraftKings Sportsbook Has Released Betting Splits for Game 3 of the NBA Finals

Joe DiProsperos - June 5, 2019

Game 3 of the NBA Finals is set to tip off tonight at Oracle Arena in Oakland. With game time almost upon us, DraftKings Sportsbook released their betting splits for tonight’s game, with the Warriors as 4.5 point favorites:

NBA Finals Game 3 (Money Line)
% of Money
% of Bets

NBA Finals Game 3 (Spread)
% of Money
% of Bets
Warriors (-4.5)
Raptors (+4.5)

As you can see, DraftKings has moneyline bets split right down the middle with slightly more money going towards the Warriors. On the other hand, spread bets are slightly in the Raptors’ favor, as with the spread money.

It’s easy to see why betters would be leaning more towards the Raptors when it comes to the spread. Toronto has kept it pretty close throughout this series. After winning Game 1 pretty handily, Toronto was within striking distance at the end of Game 2 despite allowing that huge 18-0 Warriors run in the third quarter and being unable to connect on a ton of open looks. If a few of those shots go in, then you might be looking at a completely different ball game. It’s going to be tough for Toronto going into Oracle Arena, but there’s a good chance they could cover the spread.

On the other hand, it’s not particularly surprising that more money is being put on the Warriors. Despite Kevin Durant and backup center Kevon Looney out due to injury, Klay Thompson being hobbled, and DeMarcus Cousins still getting his feet under him, they’re still a very good team. Draymond Green is making a strong case for Finals MVP, Steph has still been performing despite an uneven Game 2, and their role guys have been stepping up bigtime. Plus, it certainly doesn’t help that they’re back in Oakland. When you take all of that into account, tonight’s game certainly looks like it could be in the Warriors’ favor.

With a 2-1 series advantage on the line in what’s proven to be an exciting NBA Finals thus far, tonight’s game should be very intriguing.

Bettors Heavily Favoring Bucks in a Potential Series Against The Warriors at DraftKings Sportsbook

Joe DiProsperos - May 20, 2019

It would be fair to say that the Warriors and Bucks, in all likelihood, will be advancing to this year’s NBA Finals– the Warriors’ fifth straight appearance and the Bucks’ first in 45 years. It would be a Finals featuring two of the league’s biggest powerhouses, and sportsbooks are already hopping on that possible matchup.

Potential odds in a Bucks-Warriors series

DraftKings Sportsbook has the odds in a Bucks-Warriors series, as expected, favoring the Warriors at -225, with the Bucks being a +180. When converted to implied probabilities, that equates to the Warriors having a roughly 69% chance of winning the series, as opposed to around 35% for the Bucks (the difference is the juice).

Yet when we take a look at FiveThirtyEight’s projections, they currently give the Warriors a 65% chance against whomever comes out of the Eastern Conference. So in essence, the Warriors are slightly more expensive than actual expectations.

Current NBA Finals look ahead lines have betters heavy on the Bucks

With that being said, DraftKings Sportsbook recently opened up betting for the hypothetical series, and here is where things currently stand:

Potential Warriors vs Bucks Finals Matchup
% of Handle
% of Bets
(Bets void if series does not occur)

As you can see, an overwhelming majority of bets and the handle have gone towards the Bucks, and understandably so. For one, the Warriors are slated to be heavy favorites no matter who they face, so it would be a no-brainer to place money on their opponent being that the Warriors would a pretty expensive bet. Plus, it’s not as though the Bucks have absolutely no chance at making the series competitive. The two teams split their two regular season match ups, and Milwaukee has been on an absolute tear these playoffs, winning ten of of twelve these playoffs while boasting one of the most unstoppable players in the league in Giannis Antetokounmpo along with a very versatile lineup around him.

The Warriors should, in all likelihood, prove to be too much for whichever team is given the dubious honor of having to take them on in the Finals. But don’t be surprised if the Milwaukee Bucks make it at the very least an interesting series.

DraftKings Sportsbook Offering Free Agent Specials on 2020 NBA Title Odds

Kevin Kinkead - May 16, 2019

It’s never to early for NBA free agency rumors. You can act on those rumors at DraftKings Sportsbook, which is offering 2020 NBA title odds with a batch of specials that include possible destination teams for Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Kawhi Leonard:

Looks like Zion Wiliamson is going to be a Pelican, and the Knicks and Lakers have the third and fourth overall picks, so that throws a monkey wrench into the free agent shuffle. The lure of New York, to go play with Zion, I’d assume would be more intriguing for Kyrie and KD. Maybe Irving teams up with LeBron again? Who knows?

DraftKings Sportsbook is Celebrating “Free to Bet Day” With $514k in Total Giveaways

Bob Wankel - May 14, 2019

It’s been exactly one year since the Supreme Court’s decision that ruled the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was unconstitutional, and DraftKings Sportsbook is celebrating the anniversary that kicked the advent of legal NJ sportsbooks into motion with “Free to Bet Day.”

Think of it like a birthday celebration, sort of, except there’s no cake or music—just free sports betting action at DraftKings Sportsbook.

In what DraftKings is calling an annual promotion, Free to Bet Day will feature $514,000 in total giveaways to users. Why? Because it’s May 14. 5/14. $514k. Follow? .

Here is DraftKings CEO Jason Robbins, per a company press release announcing this promo:

The Supreme Court’s decision led to a crucial period of rapid growth and development at DraftKings, including our first-to-market launch in New Jersey, but none of our success in this first year of legalized betting would have been possible without our incredible customers. Free to Bet Day is our way of saying “thank you” to all our customers who have helped make DraftKings an integral part of American sports history and innovation, and with their passion and support we could not be more hopeful for what the future holds.

Here’s how it works. Users will get a free $5.14 bet along with special odds boosts every hour throughout the day. And that’s not all. Up to 1,000 users will win a $51.40 free bet. 100 users will win $514 DK Dollars. 10 users will win $5,140 DK Dollars.

New users can also take advantage of DraftKings Sportsbook’s PGA Championship promo in which they are offering new users $20 in free bets (four $5 bets) when they make a deposit. Is there a catch? Not really, users just have to use the free bets on the PGA Championship, which includes futures or prop bets.

DraftKings Sportsbook Is Offering Free Bets on The PGA Championship

Kyle Scott - May 13, 2019

Golf’s next major is upon us, and this year it is the PGA Championship, which has been moved up from August to May. Just like The Masters, you can bet on the PGA Championship at legal NJ sportsbooks, and DraftKings Sportsbook is offering up to $20 in free bets .

DraftKings Sportsbook PGA Championship

DraftKings Sportsbook is offering new users $20 in free bets (four $5 bets) when they make a deposit.

NJ sportsbooks have been moving away from strictly “free bet” offers because they tend not to convert as well when those bets are offered up before making a deposit– some people just take the bet and move on.

But DraftKings is requiring new users to make a deposit first, and then handing out the free bets as almost a thank you.

How does it work?

The free bets can only be used on the PGA Championship, and that includes any futures or prop bets. It is available to new users who deposit at least $5 into their account.

The favorites

The favorites to win the PGA Championship at DraftKings Sportsbook don’t look too dissimilar from Masters betting, however you’ll notice one name quite a bit higher on the list: Tiger Woods.

Woods could be had for an odds boost up to +2100 at DraftKings for Augusta, but given his historic win he’s now fourth, at +1100, to win the PGA Championship.

Top 10:

  • Rory McIlroy
  • Dustin Johnson
  • Brooks Koepka
  • Tiger Woods
  • Jon Rahm
  • Rickie Fowler
  • Justin Thomas
  • Justin Rose
  • Jason Day
  • Francesco Molinari

DraftKings Sportsbook also offers a number of prop bets and early group bets, as well as live betting on the tournament.

The Sixers Will Ring the Opening Bell at the Nasdaq to Kick off a Kinda Smart New Partnership

Jim Adair - January 30, 2015

It’s a first for a Crossing Streams podcast guest— this guy is going places: Sixers (and Devils) CEO Scott O’Neil will ring the opening bell at the NASDAQ MarketSite on Monday. The ceremonial bell ringing will be done as the Sixers “formally tip-off their new Patriot Partners platform along with the corporate partners who comprise its inaugural class: partypoker, DraftKings, StubHub and the Rothman Institute at Jefferson.”

The Sixers, by partnering with gambling, daily fantasy, not paying full price for tickets, and joint pain, are showcasing their “commitment to taking intelligent risks and bucking trends as we work daily toward becoming a world-class organization,” according to O’Neil. If jersey ads come in the next few years, expect the Sixers to wear the logo of one of these guys.

Chief Revenue Officer Christopher Heck — whom you only hear from in situations like this — said:

“In less than two years, we have transformed our partnerships from traditional sponsorships to innovative, collaborative efforts among powerhouse brands. These five partners represent the kind of revolutionary platforms and opportunities that define our new business, and that we will continue to create for seasons to come.”

There’s really something to be said for the Sixers here. A couple of years ago (and even now, a little bit) partnering with online gambling, daily fantasy and, to a lesser extent, a ticket resale site would’ve been unheard of. And that’s before we talk about the StubHub logo on the stanchions and the team’s website being fully “presented by” DraftKings. These are smart deals that actively push the Sixers into the next, more progressive NBA era (after the Sixers partnered with DraftKings, so did the Rockets and Celtics, and the league partnered with rival Fan Duel). Combining the efforts of their sponsors for greater reach is also unique (and we guarantee you the sort of thing that allows the Sixers to be the only team for which we get tips from equity researchers). For all the “these are smart businessmen” fear that drives some people to think Joshua Harris and Co. will sell the team for a huge profit in a few years, it’s moves like these that reinforce the notion that the Sixers are doing things differently from top to bottom, and that should the ownership group be in it for the long haul, there’s little doubt they will oversee a successful organization– both on and off the court.
