The Eagles Worked Out Two Long Snappers, and Somewhere Jon Dorenbos Weeps

The Eagles may make Jon Dorenbos disappear.

It’s funny, I thought a few times over the last few weeks, when I saw Dorenbos doing magic on Breakfast on Broad and on some random local pre-game show, that his local celebrity is all well and good and safe until he screws up a snap and costs the Eagles a game. He maybe didn’t do quite that on Sunday, but Chip Kelly attributed both Caleb Sturgis’ missed 32-yard field goal and Donnie Jones’ blocked punt at least in part to bad snaps. One was low, one was high. Neither were catastrophic by themselves, but they did mess with timing on both kicks:

I’m not sure I can ever remember Dorenbos screwing up a snap. Like, ever. I’m sure it’s happened, but I can’t recall. And what’s strange is that Jason Kelce has struggled on snaps all season, and now the always-steady Dorenbos is, too.*

Anyway, as predicted, Dorenbos appears to be on thin ice. It doesn’t look like a replacement is imminent, and Dorenbos absolutely deserves the benefit of the doubt. But… it might be time to reach into his bag of tricks.

Side note: The winner for best response to Caplan’s Tweet is this guy– shut it down:

*I wonder if injury is a factor here. Wouldn’t surprise me.
