The Sixers have named former CBS 3 weatherman Tom Lamaine their new public address announcer.

Lamaine, who retired from CBS 3 in 2008, will replace Matt Cord, who will become “Senior Correspondent” for Sixers.com (oh nos– think Dave Spadaro).

The Sixers just put out the press release, but credit to Dan Gross of Philly.com and (@SpikeEskin)– they both had the scoop yesterday.

Lamaine did Sixers play-by-play with Bill Campbell from 1970-1976, and was the backup for Cord and Lou Nolan at The Well in recent years.

This is a move that should really excite younger fans.

Lamaine approached the subject of doing sports again in his last newscast on CBS. That video is after the jump.
