Ruben Amaro, who is often sensitive enough to surprise local radio shows with a call (still waiting for my unsolicited e-mail…), dialed up Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team today. This exchange kicked things off:
Rube: “Was I nominated for “Weasel of the Week” again?!”
Angelo: “Yes, but you did not win. Ricky Bottalico said you’re doing a fine job.”
Rube: “Clearly I’m doing a fine job. We stink right now.”
On Ryan Howard:
“His Achilles is doing great. His strength is not 100%, probably won’t be that until some time next year, really.”
Channeling Peter Griffin*, Rube talks about what percentage of a percentage Howard will be:
“He’s probably somewhere between, you know, 85-90% of what Ryan Howard is going to be. But if he can be, as he said himself, 100% of whatever that is, then, you know. We owe it to Ryan, we owe it to our club to get him going.”
On what the Phillies will do before the trade deadline:
“It’s trying to be as good as we can today, but also keeping an eye on tomorrow as well. We have to be reasonable, try to be intelligent about the decisions we make. If we go in the tank from here to July 31st and it doesn’t look like we have a snowball’s chance in hell to make the playoffs, then we have to think about what we’re doing to do as far as replenish and add to our system.”
Listen to the interview after the jump.
*And Joe, I’ve had new neighbors before, but none of them were half the man you are. Since you’re half a man already, that splits them into some kind of fraction I can’t even measure.

Yeah, Rube is pretty much shitting the bed on this entire season
Listening to him talk makes me sick.
Good ol’ Ruben! Master of the obvious!
Listening to him doesn’t make me nearly as sick as watching hunter pence fall all over himself in the field. He’s making me hate liscio’s bread too.
Dumb comments above, all dumb comments…..
fire a shot Ruben
fire a few
fire Samuel and Gross today
send JMJ to Lehigh
make Shane bat right-handed – if you hit more than 100 points lower left-handed than right – you are not a legitimate switch hitter
@dont b hatin…. I agree 100% about shane been saying it all season!
But i said it on another post, Ruben is the problem. he can acquire talent, but cant build/run a team! Mike Vick of GMs, blockbuster deal=highlight reel play but cant do the little things it takes to win.
rube is a smug pos
“Ruben can’t acquire talent”. He was able to trade for the best pitcher in the game…trade another top pitcher and THEN get him back. You can’t blame Ruben for injuries and that’s clearly our problem. Chad Qualls totally shit the bed, but no one thought he’d do that bad for us. Although everyone has basically underachieved, our bench was clearly upgraded. People cried about trading Wilson Valdez…the same Wilson Valdez batting .232 and can’t even start for Reds. He signed Papelbon over Madsen and the latter is out for 12-18 months. 90% of Phillies fans didn’t know we had a team before 2007…this is what happens in baseball, sometimes you have a bad year and miss the playoffs…shit happens.
Smug level negative 80% and falling…fuckin’ Rube!
o.0
$180 million budget and all he has is “We stink right now?”
In any other line of work this Mexican Heeb would be out on his ass.
@talbots fucking penis – you nailed it boii…
@jon amo – clearly you are a trolling as your comment is about as retarded as your name. go disappear in queens like every other Mets fan, all 69 of you.
The mets are the gay yankees
The bastard blows. He is about to shit this game away
and he did
Fire this fucking Cuban Son of Samuel.
This team needs an overhaul, and I don’t want him leading the way anymore than I wanted Ed “Wet Ass” Wade doing it seven years ago.
Go hire a real GM, otherwise, get used to this type of shit for the next 33 years.
By the way, Kyle masturbates to this picture of Rube several times a day.
