[Editor’s note: May the Schwartz be with you.]

Jim Schwartz, the former head coach of the Detroit Lions and (more recently) defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in 2014, is reportedly a “strong possibility” to become the next defensive coordinator of the Eagles.

As a head coach, Schwartz took over the 0-16 Lions and turned them into a 10-6 team in three years. He then turned them back into a 7-9 team before being fired. In Buffalo his defense was fourth in yards and points allowed, while ranking third in takeaways. On the passing side, they gave up the fewest touchdowns, the third fewest yards, and they were second best in fewest net yards gained per pass attempt.

Schwartz lost the Buffalo gig when Rex Ryan decided to bring his own guys in, and spent last year in a “consulting position with the NFL’s officiating department to provide a coach’s perspective on officiating decisions.”
