The Eagles aquired Ernie Sims from the Lions as part of  3 way trade with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos sent TE Tony Scheffler to the Lions, Sims comes to the Eagles, and the Eagles send the Broncos the 5th round pick they received from Cleveland in the Sheldon Brown deal. This, in my opinion, is a great trade for the Eagles as they have basically traded away Sheldon Brown, and Chris Gocong for a 4th round draft pick, and Ernie Sims.

Sims, the 9th pick overall in 2006, is a little undersized but hits hard, plays the weak-side well, is good against the run, has a high motor, and has been often called a young Derrick Brooks.  Why the lions would trade away probably their best defensive player for a TE when they drafted Brandon Pettigrew last year is beyond me.  Regardless, it's a steal for the Eagles, as now they don't have to look to draft an LB as early as they previously were planning, and hes an immediate upgrade of traded away LB Chris Gocong, and any of the LBs they planned to have fill his spot (they even left me a VM asking if i had any interest in playing LB).

Hey if this Kevin Kolb thing works out, and the rumors are true they they want to trade up for Eric Berry, maybe its not a rebuilding year after all.
