September 1, 2010: Houston Dynamo at Philadelphia Union, 4 pm, PPL Park

The Union (7-13-6) are coming off of the worst loss of the franchise’s short history. A 4-1 defeat against the Colorado Rapids ended any possibility of the Union’s first winning streak ever. Heading into Colorado, the Union had gone 3-1-1 in their previous 5 games, gaining 10 points in the process. Out of nowhere, the expansion Union were in the playoff hunt with their future in their own hands. While the Union have yet to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, it would take a combination of winning their remaining games and some luck from other teams to give them any hope of reaching the playoffs.
Opposite the Union will be the Houston Dynamo (7-14-5), who are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The Dynamo, at this point in the season, are fighting more for draft placement than anything else. Sitting in seventh place in the Western Conference and tied in holding the MLS’ third worst point total, the Dynamo must look ahead to next season when they combine their high draft picks with an already speedy and youth filled team. Having lost five in a row, the Dynamo were just 1-8 through the months of August and September.
Danny Mwanga has been named as a probabl and looks to return to action after missing the Rapids game with a shoulder injury. Eduardo Coudet has been listed as questionable, possibly signaling his return from injury.
Prediction: Union win 3-1 as Sebastian Le Toux scores his 14th and 15th goals of the season.
