UPDATE: Mo Speights is About to be Freed

Sad day today. Mo Speights, owner of the outstanding (@Mopeights16) Twitter account, is about to get traded.

According to a report by Bob Cooney (sadly, Kate Fagan will no longer be bringing us our Sixers news– she’s moving on to ESPN), the Sixers are in the process of a major overhaul to their gameday lineup a minor tweak which will land them second round picks in the 2012 and 2013 drafts: [Philly.com]

The Sixers would trade Speights to the Memphis Grizzlies in return for their second-round draft pick in June's draft, provided it is pick 31-55. That means the Sixers wouldn't get the pick if the Grizzlies finish as one of the top four teams in the league. So it's a pretty safe bet they'll get that pick.

The Sixers would also get New Orleans' second-round pick in 2013 as part of the deal.

Sweet! That NBA Championship is right around the corner. Now, if only we could turn The Well into a Broadway theatre…

Brilliant!

Reals: It will make a sad when Speights leaves us. His Twitter is the gift that keeps on giving at 3 a.m. when you need a fat woman joke, or when you want to see teammates campaign for playing time for their friend

For one final time as a Sixer, #FREESPEEZY!!!! FLY, BIG MAN. FLY!!!

  1. Excited to see his “gm everyone” tweets at 12:30PM now versus the normal 11:30AM. Really gets me ready to attack my day with vigor. #freeboosie

  2. I can’t believe we got two picks for him, I would’ve been happy with 2 t-shirts and a headband…

  3. Shame, the guy could have been a force if he ever took it seriously and tried to learn to play D. Good riddance, the only fear I have is him becoming a beast with another team, but I dont think he has the drive. Keep it up Kyle, where were u on Big daddy’s show last night?

  4. I like the deal. Get what you can for Mo. Hey, you never know what can happen with those 2nd round picks, i.e. DeJuan Blair, Jodie Meeks (he’s alright), DeAndre Jordan, Mario Chalmers. All those guys have produced more than first round pick Mo Speights has.

  5. you clearly missed the reference, which had nothing to do with slavery, and everything to do with speights’ twitter campaign for more playing time

  6. Well, seeing that Mo hardly played, and played like crap when given the opportunity, he sure won’t be missed.
Pity about Kate Fagan fleeing the sinking ship that’s newspapers. I enjoyed her work covering the Sixers.
