Bart Scott Doesn't Believe in Chip Kelly's "Scientists and Stuff"
Bart Scott, former Jet, is excited for this weekend’s Eagles game. In fact, you can say he CAN’T WAIT. Why? Because he’s pretty sure the Jets are going to win, and the Eagles are a train wreck. The big problem, according to Scott, is Chip Kelly, his ego, and his “scientists and stuff”:
“I’m rooting for the Jets, and not just because I played for the Jets, but because I love a good car crash. I love a good accident waiting to happen. You have one guy who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the world. Trust me, I played for Brian Billick, so I’m used to being around guys that believe that they’re really smart, and Brian was. But come on now, are you kidding me? This guys needs to figure out what time to get a protein shake because obviously he’s giving the protein shakes at the wrong time, with his scientists and stuff that he has back there, because his teams aren’t ready to play in the first half.”
Are the Eagles having a bad year so far? That’s a hard yes. But this is Chip Kelly’s third season in the NFL. He’s won 20 games. His teams, historically, have been healthy in comparison to the rest of the league. Maybe he bit off more than he can chew with being the GM, but don’t blame scientists and smoothies. They work. But it’s not just science that makes Bart Scott mad, it’s that he treats his players like things:
“He can’t win. You know why he can’t win? Because you can’t win and tell people that you devalue great players and get rid of them just because you want to. So I think there’s a little bit of karma coming back to him. Nelson Agholor hasn’t replaced Jeremy Maclin. Jeremy Maclin was a class act guy. You can’t just replace people like they’re things, you know what I mean? Like they’re toys that you’re tired of playing with because you want something new. So I hope that he loses. I hope he loses every game.”
Sure. That’s an okay point to make. You can’t just willy nilly replace anyone you want and expect to have positive results. That part is true. But you know who else treats players like things? Every team in the NFL. That’s why every time the union’s contract is up, there’s almost a strike. The billionaire owners all over the league see players as commodities than can be replaced if they need to be. And if that’s Scott’s main issue, and his only problem is with Chip Kelly, he isn’t paying enough attention.
