Adam Schefter’s reports are usually ironclad. He’s got the best (and most numerous) sources in the NFL, and when he reports something, it’s happening. But this isn’t a report. Nope. No sir. He’s clear about that. This is just a sense.

Schefty was on Anthony Gargano’s morning show today talking about the Eagles’ head coaching search, and he thinks Ben McAdoo is currently the front runner. But no, that’s not a report (transcript via Tim McManus):

“I don’t know that [Pederson]’s the front-runner. I know that he’s square in contention for that job, I know they really like him. In my mind, my sense — these are just senses — is that Ben McAdoo is the front-runner. But I don’t know that to be right. I think Pederson and McAdoo both are square in the conversation,” he said.

I think Tom Coughlin’s interview went well. You can’t meet with him and not be impressed by the coach and man he is. But ultimately, as good and as impressive as he is, I just think the Eagles’ model here is to find someone that they can work with for the next 10 to 15 years and I don’t think Tom Coughlin fits that description as good of a coach as he is…

Maybe even Pat Shurmur would be in consideration because he is a very good football coach. But to me, I would handicap McAdoo as the favorite for whatever that’s worth and we’ll see if that’s proven right.”

Schefter is smart to mention that these are just his senses. The last time he went on the radio and voiced an opinion – that Chip Kelly may be out after the season – people went nuts because they figured it was a sourced report, and then he had to clarify that it was just his thoughts. And he was still right. That’s how good he is. When you win the Powerball, put all $1.5 billion down on Ben McAdoo as the next Eagles head coach. Tell ’em Schefty sent ya.
