Let’s all take a second to laugh that this might all be happening because Ryan Lochte lied to his mom.

After initially claiming he and other Olympic swimmers were victims of an armed robbery after being pulled over in a cab, then saying it was at a gas station (and his story not really aligning with those of the other swimmers involved), and then being seen on security footage after the alleged robbery holding items they claimed were stolen, video reportedly exists of one of the swimmers – our money is 100% on Lochte – breaking down a bathroom door at the gas station and fighting a security guard.

According to ESPN:

With three American swimmers being kept in Brazil following allegations they were robbed, authorities have told ABC News of a video showing a U.S. swimmer breaking down a gas station restroom door and fighting a security guard.

Ryan Lochte, the most high-profile victim in Sunday morning’s alleged robbery, said Wednesday that he and the other swimmers were in a taxi at a gas station when armed men posing as police officers robbed them.

The report of a video comes after U.S. swimmers Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were stopped from leaving on a flight Wednesday night as authorities investigate the alleged robbery.

Brazilian authorities said in a statement Thursday that the swimmers were taken off the airplane.

A police news conference to discuss the investigation is slated for 2 p.m. ET Thursday.

The athletes said Sunday that they were robbed at gunpoint in a taxi as they returned to the athletes village from a party, several hours after the final Olympic swimming events were held. Police have found little evidence to support their accounts.

It should be noted that while Brazil’s police force might not be the least corrupt in the world, it’s pretty much a given in 2016 that once a source mentions video existing, we’re going to see it.

Lochte’s story was shady from the beginning. Armed robbers took their wallets but not phones, Olympic credentials, or the thousands of dollars worth of Yeezys they were wearing? And no one took a swing at Lochte, who was probably slowing the whole thing down by not knowing what was going on? Unbelievable. And it all comes back to this: WHY MAKE ANYTHING UP? Just don’t tell any story at all. It makes no sense, but then I realize I’m trying to enter the mind of Ryan Lochte, which I imagine looks basically like this, with old cartoon sound effects playing:

That 2 p.m. presser can’t come soon enough.

Post Script: There could be something truly beautiful about one of Obama’s final international policy decisions being whether or not to extradite Ryan Lochte to Brazil.
