Lane Johnson’s contract, which kicked in this season, is for five years, $56.2 million with a $10 million signing bonus and $35 million guaranteed.

His 10-game suspension will cost him a lot of money now, and possibly more in the future.

There are several Tweets on the matter, but Mike Garafolo seems to have the best information:

I asked Garafolo about his math and it breaks down thusly:

Johnson’s base salary in 2016 is only $675,000 (welcome to the Howie Roseman cap structuring plan!), so he  loses $396,900 in salary.

He also loses ~58% (10 weeks worth) of his $2 million pro-rated signing bonus– $1,176,000.

He ALSO loses ~58% of his $2.4 million roster bonus– $1,411,200. [UPDATE: This portion wasn’t prorated, so Johnson loses about $287k, not $1.4 million.]

He ALSO ALSO forfeits ~58% of the prorated portion of his rookie signing bonus (it’s unclear if he has to repay this or if the Eagles can withhold it from future earnings), which is $3 million– $1,769,880.

So, $396,900 + $1,176,000 + $1,411,200 million + $1,769,880, carry the 2, flush a failed urine test, blame someone else, $4,753,980, give or take.

Oh, and then there’s $25 million that’s no longer guaranteed if the Eagles part ways with him. Sad!
