RADIO WARS: Jon Marks Is Headed to WIP
WIP press release:
CBS RADIO Philadelphia’s SportsRadio 94WIP today announced the addition of Jon Marks to the airstaff. Marks will host the 6:00-10:00 PM shift beginning Tuesday, February 7th, as well as anchor week-day Phillies pre-game and post-game coverage, provide content for CBSPhilly.com and contribute to WIP’s daytime lineup. The show can be heard on-air, online at CBSPhilly.com and by downloading the Radio.com app.
“Jon’s talent, relationship to Philadelphia sports fans, and history in the marketplace will be a huge addition to WIP. We’re thrilled to have him aboard,” said Spike Eskin, Program Director, CBS RADIO Philadelphia.
Marks said, “It’s an exciting time in Philadelphia sports and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be in charge of the airwaves every night on WIP. I’d like to thank Spike and David [Market Manager David Yadgaroff] for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get started.”
No surprise here. We speculated when we broke the news that Marks was leaving 97.5 in the fall that he’d wind up at WIP once his three-month non-compete clause was up (not like there are many other options). Marks will replaced Brian Haddad – SLUDGE! – who will remain with the station.
In just a few months, WIP has completely reshaped its lineup, with Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie in mid-days, Chris Carlin and Ike Reese in Afternoons, and Jon Marks in evenings. Unforuntately, Angelo Cataldi has said he’ll retire when his contract is up at the end of the year, and no one here seems poised to take his spot. If only there were a daily morning podcast to fill the gap. MUSIC:
