The Eagles Once Again Go on the Offensive Against Jeff McLane
There is no love lost between Inquirer beat reporter Jeff McLane and the Eagles what with the riot that nearly broke out in the press box when McLane was escorted out of the last game of the season. The DISCORD continued today on the heels of McLane’s report that Carson Wentz had a sore elbow at the end of the season.
First, McLane’s wordings:
Carson Wentz experienced soreness in his right elbow last season that the Eagles believed was related to his throwing mechanics, sources close to the situation said.
The soreness wasn’t significant enough that Wentz had to be listed on the team’s injury report, and the Eagles also believed that it was partly because the rookie quarterback was throwing more than he ever had in his career. But his elbow pain was significant enough that the Eagles stressed that he took additional time off after the season ended.
Now, Howie on the WIP as part of the station’s early March football town hall because #thistownsucks:

Angelo: “Story says towards the end of the season, Carson Wentz was dealing with some pain in his throwing elbow. What can you tell us about that?”
Howie: “Not true. Not true. Not true. Two words. Not. True.”
Angelo: “There was no issue at all?”
Howie: “There was no issue at all. It’s the NFL. Are there players on our team who are sore and, you know, you throw a ball a lot. Is he sore at some point in time? Nothing that came to any of our attention.”
Angelo: “We were told at the end of the season that Doug told Wentz to shut everything down for a month. That had nothing to do with any physical problem?”
Howie: “No. What coach said, and he says it to all our players, was ‘Get away from football. Relax. It’s a long season.’
FAKE NEWS! No seriously, don’t tweet that at McLane because he’ll block you:

I’m kinda gonna side with Howie here, even if our views on airplane toilet use differ wildly. The Eagles really have nothing to gain by denying that Wentz had or has a sore elbow. I wouldn’t even find it that particularly alarming if he did. He threw the ball more than he ever has last year. It’s March. IT’S MARCH. It doesn’t really matter. The Eagles do themselves no harm by admitting that Wentz was a little sore and tired trying to carry that dreadful offense for most of the season. That said, I’m also not calling McLane a liar. But the nature of the story, and it’s headline (“Eagles’ Carson Wentz developed sore elbow during season, sources say”), may have made things out to be more serious than whatever ache and pain Wentz had. Or we’re just a sports-starved town with nothing better to talk about and would’ve quickly made it into a thing.
