No, Ben Simmons is not seven – SEVEN! – feet tall.

How did this all start?

Last week, a Tweet containing a screenshot of Reddit thread – always a reliable source of accurate information – sent out by Bleacher Report’s Drew Corrigan got spread around Sixers Twitter:

Because I am an esteemed journalist without pants, I consulted with sources, dug deep in the bowels of the webnets, and… actually, I just watched the YouTube video the post linked to. This was it– World B. Free recounting a story about how he JOKED with Ben Simmons that he looked like he grew two inches:

Simmons is listed a 6’10, so if you add two inches… yeah, you got it.

As you can hear, there is no actual substance to what Mr. B Free said, but because the Internet is a dreadful place, everyone ran with it…

… in part because WIP’s Jon Johnson tweeted the following:

Yes, 6’10 is, in fact, just under… you know what, never mind.

The cat was out of the bag. So, Brett Brown was asked about it. Here’s his response when asked if Ben Simmons grew two inches since being drafted by the Sixers:

“No, he did not. I wish he did, but he did not.”

So there you have it– Ben Simmons did not have a random growth spurt. He did not grow an extra two inches. And perhaps the best response to all this comes from former Sixers social media guy and current Complex writer Max Rappaport:

Been there.
