Gone are the days of an ostensible feud between local sports teams. You know, when the Eagles would do something just as someone else was starting to steal the spotlight. Joe Banner is no longer around, after all.

With the dawn of the social media age, local sports teams have become generous in their outward praise of their counterparts. The Phillies hung an Eagles banner at CBP. The Flyers welcomed Doug Pederson. And on Friday, the Sixers will go above and beyond in serving as one of the last large-scale pep rallies at the Wells Fargo Center, part of a triumvirate of events beginning with Wing Bowl on Friday morning and ending with the Flyers game on Saturday afternoon.

In an email to employees, Sixers president – and as a Nova alum, fine guardian of the Blue and White – Chris Heck explained why:

I’ve always said, “this is our city.”  We’re the leaders in this town, and great leaders unite. We want to rally our collective fanbase. So, we are launching our Brotherly Love campaign to bring passionate Philadelphians together. Brotherly love is on our jersey, it’s in our DNA, and it will be our battle cry to unite Philly and show the rest of the world who is boss.

You may have seen a few changes already to our marketing, website and social media accounts.  We have gone green for the Eagles and #BrotherlyLove messaging will be everywhere.

There is a clear understanding that we are meticulous about our 76ers brand and how it is activated across all of you, our brand ambassadors. But at this moment, the brand is bigger than us. This is about Philadelphia.

The Sixers will have Brotherly Love messages plastered throughout “THE CENTER,” all lighting and signage will be green, the players will wear presumably team-agnostic Brotherly Love shooting shirts, each will have a personalized Eagles jersey in their locker, the dancers and dunk squad will perform Fly Eagles Fly, and Franklin will, obviously, be wearing Eagles colors. All employees are also encouraged to wear green.

That is, of course, if The Center is still standing after Wing Bowl on Friday morning.
