After a day off, the Phillies continued their momentum from Sunday’s win over the Brewers with a 5-4 win over the Colorado Rockies.

It began in the bottom of the first, thanks to a three-run home run by Scott Kingery. It was his third homer of the season. He extended the lead to four runs thanks to a sac fly in the bottom of the third.

After the Rockies got their first run of the night in the seventh, Jesmuel Valentin singled to give the Phillies their fifth run in the eighth inning. It ended up being an important point in the game.

Luis Garcia almost blew the game. Garcia gave up four singles and a run before being pulled for Seranthony Dominguez. It wasn’t pretty early on for Dominguez, who gave up a hit and a run to cut the team’s lead to two. But he finally got going, getting a sac fly, which scored another run, and then a line out, and a strikeout to end the game. Both runs Dominguez gave up were credited as earned runs against Garcia. A win’s a win! But it was a win that almost wasn’t.

Game 2 of the series is tonight at 7:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Nick Pivetta will take the mound. He’ll look to replicate Aaron Nola’s 10 strikeout performance from last night.

The team also agreed to deals with first round pick Alex Bohm and 19 other draftees.

Before we move on, we have a special edition of Snow the Goalie featuring Flyers GM Ron Hextall! A must-listen.

The Eagles had their first day of mandatory minicamp, and everybody showed up. Including Michael Bennett, who had a few things to say:

“I think the culture is just one of a kind. I think we have a lot of great coaches, obviously. But then the culture is all about family, all about team, and you see it throughout the organization, whether it’s the equipment guys, the training staff, everybody’s really about the team, that family. So it’s really cool.”

There were plenty of things to be happy about, including Tre Sullivan at safety.

Darren Sproles returning to the field was also a huge development at minicamp. He said he could play today if it was Week 1:

“After the way I went out last year, if I retired after that I think I would have thought later down the line that it wouldn’t have been right for me,” Sproles said Tuesday as he walked off the practice field during Eagles minicamp.

There is no shortage of motivation for the soon-to-be 35-year-old return specialist and expert wheel and screen route runner. He not only wants to end his career on an actual, non injury-ended high note but also has the chance to lead a youthful running backs group as a leader.

“Every day, no matter if he was calling or texting — he is the leader in the room, no doubt, since he got here,” Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley said. “It’s about what he brings to the table and how hard he works.”

The dog masks will come off soon. Once the Birds get their rings Thursday night, Doug Pederson wants the team to move on from the Super Bowl win.

Finally, the Eagles were part of a clue on Jeopardy, a little after being a puzzle on Wheel of Fortune.

The Sixers continued to hold draft workouts in Camden. They had two yesterday, with the big one coming in the second session with Villanova’s Mikal Bridges in a private session. He sees the Sixers as a perfect fit, and so does the team:

“In terms of the way we play pace, space, defend, I think he checks a lot of those boxes,” Sixers vice president of player personnel Marc Eversley said. “His length, his quickness, his athleticism, his ability to shoot the ball, those are all things I thought he did, not only throughout his career, but he did today as well.”

After averaging 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists last season as a junior, Bridges is a prospect for the Sixers’ No. 10 pick. Continuing his career as an NBA player close to home would have a special meaning for the 21-year-old.

“When I was younger, my mom, my dad, my grandparents would always take me to games,” Bridges said. “It’s really cool seeing what they’ve been doing and how well-coached they are and how hard they play, how talented they are. It would just be the perfect fit.”

The first workout included guards Zhaire Smith (Texas Tech), Marcus Foster (Creighton), swingman Donte Ingram (Loyola-Chicago), and forwards Marcus Derrickson (Georgetown), Nick King (Middle Tennessee State), and Mikyle McIntosh (Oregon).

Guards Jevon Carter (West Virginia) and Bruce Brown Jr. (Miami-FL) highlight today’s workout.
