Let’s Get it Back to the Eagles

I did posts about eSports and G-League basketball this morning, and Russ hit on the Phillies, so now it’s time to get it back to the Birds.
Day two of training camp kicked off three hours earlier than day one, and that’s gonna be the case for the rest of the weekend, with practice beginning at 9:15 followed by availability after the session. Jim Schwartz will speak today and Mike Groh will be at the podium tomorrow, followed by Doug again on Sunday.
Here’s the full camp schedule for your viewing pleasure. You can click on it to enlarge if it looks squished on your computer or phone:
Thirteen days from the first preseason game? That’s crazy man. Feels like the Super Bowl happened a few weeks ago.
The Eagles announced that they added a defensive tackle, a guy named Adam Reth. No press release or anything, just a tweet and short blurb on the website. Looks like Reth is another camp body, a guy who played college ball at Northern Iowa. The Eagles’ camp roster is now at 89, one shy of the 90-man limit.
Some early notes from reporters down at NovaCare:
Nick Foles got first-team reps in 11-on-11s but Sudfeld is in with twos. Looks like Wentz might not participate in 11s today.

Wentz gets skipped over in the first set of 11o11. Did take 1st team reps with the 7s tho #Eagles

Fair enough. Why put the guy on any kind of fake timeline anyway?

I wrote a bit about this back in May when the rule changed.
The new guidelines are as follows:
- no more running starts for the kicking team
- eight return team players must line up within 15 yards of the ball (called the “setup zone”)
- no blocking inside the “setup zone” until the ball touches the ground or is caught
- two-man wedge blocks are no longer allowed
- kickoff team must have five men on each side of the ball and spread out at specific intervals (to prevent overloads and get free runners downfield)
Here’s the NFL video that does a nice job explaining:
Following today’s vote at the @NFL Spring League Meetings, here’s everything you need to know about the new kickoff rules for the upcoming 2018 season. The rule will be reevaluated next offseason. pic.twitter.com/YubLyMBR4g

Couple more notes:
Year 3 for Destiny Vaeao, continues to be in the mix. Working with the first-team D. DT depth is a question for Eagles. Team has liked Vaeao, invested in his development.

DeVante Bausby getting the slot reps today. Kamu Grugier-Hill remains your starting LB.
— Zach Berman (@ZBerm) July 27, 2018
Grugier-Hill split reps with Corey Nelson at the weakside linebacker spot yesterday. Nigel Bradham and Jordan Hicks are the two linebackers used in nickel packages, so the Birds basically need a Mychal Kendricks replacement for their 4-3 base defense, which they don’t even play much of.
That’s about it for now. We’ll see what Schwartz has to say in a bit.
Time’s yours.
