John Elway.

Great quarterback.

Not great at scouting quarterbacks.

The Broncos sent Case Keenum to the Redskins last night in a deal where the teams will essentially split his salary while exchanging late round draft picks.

My first Keenum thought immediately takes me back to the 2018 NFC Championship Game, when he completed 28 of 48 passes for 271 yards while tossing for 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. The Birds defense basically stuffed everything Minnesota tried to do that day. They were really “flying around” out there.

Keenum didn’t have much of a season in Denver in 2018/2019, putting up the following numbers and ranks:

  • 3,890 yards (14th)
  • 18 touchdowns (23rd)
  • 15 interceptions (30th)
  • 81.2 QB rating (29th)

He did not light the world on fire. Everything positive attributed to Keenum dates back to that one decent season he had in Minnesota, the 22 touchdowns and 7 interceptions he amassed after taking over for Sam Bradford.

Of course we should point out that the Redskins started 6-3 this season before Alex Smith went down, which was tough to see. The nature of his injury complicates an eventual return, but I saw this graphic on Twitter, which was crazy:

Either way, I don’t think Eagles fans should feel super concerned about facing either guy, assuming both are healthy at some point. The Birds lucked out by playing the Redskins twice when they were terrible, and they’ll be favored to win both games against Washington again this season.

Let’s end with a poll:

How much do the Redskins concern you in 2019?
