Enough with the video gaming.

Let’s get it back to baseball.

The Phillies open the regular season at home, this Thursday, against the Cobb County Braves. Divisional rival New York opens against the Nationals, also on Thursday, but first they’ve got their final preseason game in Sarasota, Florida this afternoon, which is three-hour bus ride from their Spring Training home base. Then, they fly to Syracuse for a workout before heading to Washington for the season opener.

That seems… pretty dumb, doesn’t it? Pitcher Noah Syndergaard feels that way, and said this to the media:

“…you’d think we’d go to New York to get, as adults, our things and our affairs in order, but no – we’ve got to go to Syracuse first.”

Ouch.

But he’s right; this sounds pretty bush league, not like something a professional baseball team would do.

The Mets play Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, before heading back to Florida for a three-game series against the Marlins. That takes them to their home opener NEXT Thursday against the Nationals.

So their travel schedule in the next 11 days looks something like this:

Port St. Lucie —-> Sarasota —-> Syracuse —-> Washington —-> Miami —-> New York.

Sounds like a great time.
