Wow, Bryce Harper isn’t messing around.

Less than two months after signing a 13-year deal worth $330 million, and less than four games into a 162-game season, Harper announced on Instagram today that he and his wife are expecting a boy:

I can’t imagine this would be an April Fools Joke, right? You wouldn’t joke about having a kid, right? You wouldn’t take a romantic picture on Race Street Pier, right? Kayla Harper tweeted about it, so I guess we’re good.

Anyway, Bryce talked about kids during his introductory press conference with the Phils:

“Beyond the money, years were important to me, being able to put down some roots and grow a family,” Harper said. “At the end of this, I could have a couple of kids and they could be able to say they’re from Philly.”

Yeah. That was the theme with Harper’s presser. He talked a lot about wanting to be here for a while, no trades, none of that stuff. He wanted to put down roots and be with a team through the ups and downs. He wanted to change all of the crappy diapers and lose sleep at night and do all of the things that true Philadelphia parents do.

Here was another family reference:

“It’s good to feel wanted by the Phillies and the fans of Philadelphia,” Harper said. “I am going to grow my family in this city. I wanted to finish my career somewhere. I can’t wait to be a part of the Phillies for a long period of time.”

Harper added that he wanted to “be able to dig his roots somewhere.”

He wants to be able to dig his roots into the Buy Buy Baby store over in Cherry Hill. His wife will build her baby shower registry right here in the Delaware Valley.

Another quote:

“Being able to sit down with John and Leigh (Middleton) and knowing how family-oriented they are, how they treat everybody in the Phillies organization from everybody in the clubhouse, everybody up in the offices, and also everybody around the ballpark.”

“I think it’s pretty amazing how many tenured Philly people that work with the team are with the organization for a long period of time. Every time I came to Citizens Bank Park, I felt that…talking to the guys in the elevator, or when we walked into the visitor side and talking to Butch that stands right there, he’s one of the security guys…other guys saying “Come here. Play here. Be part of our team. Be part of our organization.” That goes a long way. You feel the love. You feel the intent, the pureness of the people who come to the ballpark every day.

He wasn’t kidding, was he?

Welcome to Philly, baby Harper.
