Let’s give a blue collar welcome to “Harper,” “Realmuto,” and “Nola,” the three Humboldt penguins who recently hatched at the Philadelphia Zoo.

They’ll be hanging out in the Penguin Point exhibit, which was redesigned not long ago and features a live camera that allows you to watch these little dudes and dudettes from home.

There are 22 penguinos at the Philly Zoo, among them:

  • Winkie
  • Pinto
  • Emperor
  • Otis
  • Calfred
  • Fausto
  • Jamaican Me Crazy
  • Belleza
  • Sushi
  • Peso
  • Digger
  • Charlie
  • Belle
  • Gannon
  • Schwimmer
  • Geller
  • Tribbiani
  • Aniston
  • Phoebe
  • (plus three unnamed adults per the Zoo website)

Seems like some Zoo executive was a Friends fan back in the day.

Here’s a brief description of this species, after the jump:

Humboldt penguins are from the west coast of South America, along the coast of Chile and Peru. Humboldt penguins are intensely social and gregarious, are usually found in large colonies and have superb swimming skills. Humboldt penguins are listed as Vulnerable in the wild by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) with primary threats including over-fishing, which depletes the penguins’ food supply.

Welcome to Philadelphia, Harper, Realmuto, and Nola. I believe the next three penguins born at the zoo should be named Coggin, Relaford, and Sandberg.
