We have an update on Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez, and it’s not great. Gabe Kapler told reporters awhile ago that Dominguez, who’s 3-0 with a 4.01 ERA and 10.6 K/9 this season, suffered an injury to his UCL.

Dominguez had to leave Wednesday afternoon’s win over the Padres after this eighth-inning pitch, which you can see after the jump:

As for the second opinion, don’t hold your breath. Perhaps it leads to a differing conclusion, but that is rarely the case in these situations. Ligament damage. Throwing elbow. That’s never a good mix, so it sounds like Dominguez will probably miss at least the remainder of this season. He joins an ever-growing list of Phillies relievers to miss time due to injury. Let’s see here…Victor Arano, Tommy Hunter, David Robertson, Adam Morgan, Edubray Ramos, and Pat Neshek.  Did I get them all? I think I did.

Crazy.

As for an update on some of those injuries, Matt Breen has it:

While Dominguez wasn’t exactly dominant this season, this is a big blow for an already decimated bullpen. He had pitched better over the last month, logging a 2.38 ERA in 11.1 IP since May 8. His control betrayed him as he walked more than six batters per nine innings during that stretch, but he was clearly the team’s second best relief option remaining behind Hector Neris.

Left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez will take Dominguez’s roster spot. The 23-year-old had a 5.68 ERA while opponents hit .281 in his seven starts with the Iron Pigs this season. So, there’s that.
