No luck in la la land. Unless you’re Rhys Hoskins and Bryce Harper at In-N-Out prior to the weekend.

The Phillies were swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers, despite playing some good baseball in nearly all three games at some point.

Friday night’s loss wasn’t Jake Arrieta’s best outing, as he gave up five runs on 10 hits in five innings, with all five runs coming off three home runs. He got yanked in the fifth after he tied the game on an RBI single in the top half of the inning

Saturday saw the Phillies use an opener in José Álvarez for two innings before pitchers such as Cole Irvin and Vince Velasquez came in. Like Friday night, the Phillies were either trailing or tied with the Dodgers for the entire game, and, as a matter of fact, the entire series. Bryce Harper, who had two hits this series with both of them on Saturday, hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 3 before Hector Neris gave up a walk-off homer on a 3-2 pitch to…Will Smith. Fitting.

Sunday’s game was scoreless until the seventh. Nick Pivetta pitched the first six innings and gave up three hits with nine strikeouts. A hell of an effort. But the Phillies bats couldn’t solve Rich Hill, who went seven innings and also gave up three hits with nine strikeouts. David Freese hit a solo home run off Vince Velasquez in the seventh for the first run of the game. The Dodgers would score seven more in the eighth in an overall poopfest.

There is some help on the way, as the Phillies acquired Jay Bruce and cash considerations from the Mariners for minor league third baseman Jake Scheiner. That’ll bring some help to the bench.

Bruce and the Phils will be in San Diego for a three-game set with the Padres beginning tonight at 10:10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Aaron Nola will take the mound against Eric Lauer. The MLB Draft is also tonight if you care. The Phils have the 14th overall pick.

Elsewhere, one year made all the difference for the franchise. And the Philadelphia Zoo named three penguins after Phillies players. Cool.
