Case Keenum Named Redskins Starter for Season Opener in Philadelphia
Welcome back, Case Keenum.
The 31-year-old journeyman quarterback will be under center for the Washington Redskins when they visit your town, your team, your Philadelphia Eagles in about two weeks.
Keenum beat out rookie Dwayne Haskins for the starting gig as veteran Colt McCoy remains on the shelf, rehabbing the broken leg that cut short his 2018 season.
This was probably the plan from the beginning, or at least what most people had surmised. Keenum starts, Haskins learns, and the Redskins go from there. Left tackle Trent Williams is still holding out, Jordan Reed suffered another concussion recently, and the wide receiver situation is a bit iffy right now, and those are three things that might make you think twice about throwing a rook into the fire.
Keenum played 16 games for Denver last year, compiling a 6-10 record while completing 62.3% of his passes and throwing for 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. That comes after the excellent year he had in Minnesota, when those numbers hit 67.7%, 22, and 7, respectively.
He’s only played one career game against Philadelphia, in the NFC Championship Game, where he threw a touchdown and two picks in the 38-7 loss.
It’s always worth watching those highlights again, so here you go:
