After preseason injuries to backup quarterbacks Nate Sudfeld and Cody Kessler, the Eagles have firmed up their depth behind starter Carson Wentz by adding veteran Josh McCown to the mix.

The team could have gone with someone who was along the lines of a human equivalent to a Jugs machine, but they instead brought McCown out of his recent retirement. This will be his 17th NFL season.

Judging by the details of the contract, it would appear should Wentz get hurt that McCown will be the primary backup.

Pretty strong.

At the very least, he will likely serve as the No. 2 quarterback until Sudfeld is cleared to return in late September or early October.

The 40-year-old McCown has completed 60.2% of his passes and thrown for 17,707 yards and 98 touchdowns in 99 career games (76 starts).
