Zeke Elliott is chilling in Cabo right now, which isn’t a bad place to be while holding out from Cowboys training camp.

We’ve been keeping abreast of the situation at Crossing Broad, since Zeke’s status will play a big role in determining how Dallas performs this season against America’s Team, which is your Philadelphia Eagles.

Apparently Zeke is fine with pulling a Le’Veon Bell and just skipping the entire season if he doesn’t get a new deal, if you believe ESPN’s Josina Anderson (after the jump):

Representatives for running back Ezekiel Elliott have told the Dallas Cowboys that he will not play in the 2019 season without a new contract, a source close to the situation told ESPN’s Josina Anderson on Tuesday.

The source added that at this time, it is not likely that Elliott’s holdout continues into the regular season, based on the belief that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to get a new deal done with the running back before Week 1.

Elliott informed the Cowboys that he would not play without a new contract in January, the source said.

On Monday, former NFL running back Eric Dickerson said on FS1’s “Undisputed” that he spoke with Elliott’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux. According to Dickerson, Arceneaux said it was possible Elliott would miss part of the regular season but that they didn’t want that to happen

It would be a real shame if this standoff carried into the regular season. You would just hate to see that.

You would also hate to see Jerry Jones overpay a running back who already has close to 1,500 carries in just three NFL seasons.

But on a serious note, this was probably a straight leak from Zeke’s camp, laundered through a “source,” with the goal of poking the Cowboys a bit. A slight prodding, if you will.

We will be keeping an eye on this situation.
