Washington Lineman Says it was "A Slap in the Face" for Adrian Peterson to be Inactive Sunday
We’re five days into the NFL season. Antonio Brown forced his way out of Oakland, half of the Miami Dolphins want to be traded, and now we’ve got a Redskins lineman questioning the decision making of Jay Gruden and company.
“Any time you’ve got a Hall of Fame guy that doesn’t dress, man, it’s a slap in the face,” Washington tackle Morgan Moses told 106.7 the Fan in D.C. on Monday. “And obviously, we’ve gotta figure out what the reason is. And it’s my job as one of the older guys on the offensive line to speak up and say, ‘Hey, we need him.’ Obviously, you don’t put a Hall of Fame guy like that on the sideline. When he’s healthy, as well.”
…
“I think he brings a lot to the game,” Moses said regarding Peterson. “I think he brings a lot to our team. But to have that guy just standing on the sideline is just — it doesn’t sit well to guys on the team or the NFL. So I think that’s something we need to correct, man, because he’s a hell of a football player.”
“You know with (Derrius) Guice coming off the injury and him having his first action, a lot of us felt like Adrian shoulda been out there even if it was just to spare Guice. Cause, obviously, Chris Thompson is not a guy that you want to give the ball in the A-gaps, in the B-gaps when (the defense has) got their big heavy guys sitting in there. Chris Thompson is good at opening space and that’s what he does well,” Moses said.
Is he wrong?
The Redskins ran for 28 yards on 13 carries. Derrius Guice handled the ball 10 times and Chris Johnson got three carries. Peterson, I’m sure you remember, had the 90-yard touchdown run at Lincoln Financial Field last year and logged 1,042 ground yards at the age of 33. Washington sees Guice as their running back of the future, and while Peterson is nearing the end of his career, he was fantastic last season.
But if Moses feels this way, then I’m sure other Washington Redskins agree. You would just hate to see an early season mutiny down there.
