Black Monday in the NFL.
This is the day every season where coaches get canned and move on to their next opportunity. Some are thrilled about it and some aren’t. I’d imagine Jay Gruden was happy to get out of that nonsense situation down in Washington, but who knows?
As such, we have updates this morning on the division rivals.
Washington
Ron Rivera is reportedly getting the gig, per ESPN:
The Washington Redskins are expected to hire former Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera as their next head coach, barring unforeseen developments, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
The news comes on the same day that Washington parted ways with team president Bruce Allen.
Good hire. Rivera is the real deal, feels like that ship sailed in Carolina and it was time for team and coach to part. Bruce Allen’s departure is underrated, though. That guy needed to go.
Now Dan Snyder needs to take a hike next, for the sake of my Redskins fan friends.
New York
Pat Shurmur is reportedly out, also via ESPN and Schefty:
The New York Giants fired coach Pat Shurmur on Monday after two seasons on the job, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter Monday.
Shurmur amassed a 9-23 record. His 19-46 mark and .292 winning percentage in four seasons as head coach with the Giants and Cleveland Browns is the seventh lowest of all time.
The Giants (4-12) finished in fourth and third place, respectively, in the NFC East each of the past two seasons with Shurmur at the helm. They earned top-six picks in the draft for their struggles.
Not really sure what Shurmur was gonna achieve with an aging Eli Manning and then a rookie QB, but you just had the feeling he wasn’t the right guy for the job anyway. Seemed like a placeholder after Ben McAdoo.
Dallas
Nothing official on Jason Garrett yet, but I think this basically tells us all we need to know:
Hours after the #DallasCowboys win over the Redskins, Jason Garrett took to the field at AT&T Stadium for possibly the last time as head coach to throw around the football with his family and friends.

Everything would seem to suggest he’s gone, as reports start trickling in. Reports like this one:
The Cowboys are expected to inform Jason Garrett today that he will not get a new contract, ending his 9.5-year tenure with the club, a source tells @1033fmESPN

A team source tells me HC Jason Garrett’s contract expires on January 14th so it is possible that we may not hear any word until then. It would not be a firing it would simply be a decision to not renew #Cowboys
— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) December 30, 2019
Knowing Jerry Jones, that Slater report is probably accurate. They might not say a damn thing and let the contract simply expire.
The entire NFC East is going to have new head coaches, except for Doug Pederson of course.

Matt Ruhle going to the giants will be a problem
Doug Pederson needs to be fired after the buttkicking his team is going to take from Seattle. The most clueless coach in all of football still with a job. He barely beat the Giants twice, and got lucky against Washington and Dallas. Enjoy 9-7 and 6-10 seasons with this clown as coach.
I agree
This will be the 1st ever playoff meeting between the Eagles and Seahawks. The Eagles haven’t beaten the Seahawks in Philly since 1989. Something has got to give right!!!
Nope.
Why hasn’t any team considered the Great Ray Rhodes?
