Joel Embiid was named to his third straight All-Star game Thursday night, finishing second in the weighted voting for Eastern Conference front court players.

Ben Simmons finished 7th among back court players, and while he did very well in the media and player vote, look at how the fans rated him:

Big disparity there, going from 8th in the fan voting to 4th among players and 3rd among media members. That’s the perfect snap shot for how his unique game is valued (or not valued) by different portions of the NBA community. For context here, when determining five starters from each conference, the fan vote is weighted at 50% while player and media votes count for 25%.

Next Thursday, the NBA will then announce the seven reserves for each side, which are decided by head coaches who cannot vote for their own players. On February 6th, captains LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo will pick their rosters from the group of 22 All Stars.

Simmons likely gets in as a reserve, though it’s intriguing to me how he’s perceived by NBA fans vs. players and media.
