Let’s get it back to the Eagles.

If you’ve been keeping up to date with the NFL’s pre-draft rumor mill, you’ve heard the name of Byron Jones pop up rather frequently over the past few days. He’s the 27-year-old, free agent, safety-turned cornerback currently on the market.

The first report connecting the ex-Cowboy to the Eagles I believe came from Adam Caplan of the Inside the Birds podcast, who suggested that a spring deal could amount to $17 million dollars a year. Other rumors then popped up via CBS and SNY, the latter publishing a Jets article featuring this entry:

In fact, (the Jets have) already shown some interest in two of the top corners on the market, according to NFL sources — Byron Jones and James Bradberry. One source said the Jets seem to like Bradberry better and might be more willing to spend big money on him.

And the money will be big. In fact, both Jones and Bradberry are apparently looking for contracts worth at least $15 million per season – or more on average than what the Jets gave Johnson. Even if the Jets are willing to go that high, they are not the favorites to land either player. For the most part, sources expect Jones will land in Philadelphia while Bradberry ends up in Washington.

That takes us to this morning, with Adam Schefter doing a hit on Marc Farzetta’s show and explaining that he feels like the Eagles will be “in play” for Jones:

Jones was a Pro Bowler in 2018. He’d certainly be an upgrade over Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills, who are both free agents. The Eagles really need to get it right in the defensive backfield this offseason, starting with the Malcolm Jenkins situation and then progressing from there.
