Ben Simmons will be reevaluated in three weeks while undergoing continued rehab for the nerve impingement in his back.

He spoke today before the Pistons game and offered a bit of an update, saying that he’s feeling good but has no timeline for a return.

Ben’s quotes are so short that I’ll just write them out in Q/A form:

What happened in the Milwaukee game and how have you progressed since?

“I felt a pinch in my back during the game, tried to continue through it for a little bit and then knew there was something bothering me too much. Went back to the locker room, but since then I’ve been feeling great and just rehabbing.”

Are you confident you’ll be back at some point this season?

“Can’t give you dates or a timeline. I’m doing well. Rehab’s been great, progressing, staying in there and doing what I can to come back 100%.”

When did you start rehab?

“A few days after coming back from Milwaukee. About four days.”

Could it carry into next season?

“This is something I’m rehabbing now. There’s no timeline on it. Whenever I’m back I’m back. Whenever I’m 100% I’m coming back. I’m not here to sit and just wait, when I’m healthy I’ll be playing.”

Can rehab alone take care of this or is surgery an option?

“I think that’s something down the road if it gets there, but right now I’m doing great. I feel great, I’m feeling strong.”

Any symptoms that have gone away?

“I have no pain. I feel strong, everything going on right now I feel very confident.”

You running?

“I haven’t been on the floor or started anything like that yet.”

Are you more confident now than you were two weeks ago?

“Definitely. I’ve never been in a situation like this and never had that, a nerve impingement. To know where I am compared to two weeks ago, I feel much, much better. I’m very confident.”

What was the genesis of this? Brett said you left practice after coming down for a rebound..

“Yeah, no, it was Milwaukee, that’s when it happened.”

There was nothing prior to that?

“No, those were two different incidents.”

Did the fall in the All Star Game have anything to do with it?

“No.”

To be clear, it’s not a chronic condition, it’s an acute, traumatic injury?

“Yeah, in the Milwaukee game. I felt great (at the beginning) of that game, went up and got to the line, got two buckets. So I was feeling good.”

You’ve never dealt like back issues like this before?

“No.”

Note: I find it a bit weird that the back issue from the practice before the Brooklyn game had nothing to do with the Milwaukee incident, but both Simmons and the Sixers say the incidents are completely unrelated.
