Carson Wentz spoke to reporters via conference call earlier this week, but followed up with 97.5 the Fanatic’s Rob Maaddi later for a 1v1 interview.

There wasn’t too much that deviated from what he told scribes over the phone on Monday, but Maaddi asked about the Eagles’ reported interest in Jadeveon Clowney, and how Wentz would theoretically welcome the guy who knocked him out of the playoffs last year.

Predictably, Carson gave a safe reply:

“I don’t want to talk about speculation and all of those things, but it’s kind of the same messaging I’ve always shared. What Howie and the rest of the people in the organization feel is the best fit for us, I have the utmost confidence in their ability to put those pieces together. Whoever it is, whatever the pieces are, I believe in them. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t have signed that contract last year to be fully invested in this team and city, but I did. I have the utmost confidence in everyone’s ability to make this team as good (as possible) and put us in the best situation to win games.”

It’s similar to what he said Monday, about having that self-belief and trust in the organization, which is a good point. If he really didn’t believe in Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson, he didn’t have to sign a contract extension here. He could have played out his rookie deal and gone elsewhere. Of course, if he felt like that was his best opportunity for a pay day, considering his injury history, then maybe that took precedence over confidence in the front office.

RE: Clowney, of course he makes the team better. I don’t think anybody would really truly hold a grudge if were to sign here. One sack of Dak Prescott and it’s all good.
