We’ve reached the point where Governor Tom Wolf is now commenting on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback receiving a beard trim. This is the COVID-19 world we’re living in.

The background here is that Ben Roethisberger was looking rather haggard during quarantine, and said he’d only address his beard after being able to throw passes to teammates. After a workout this week, he went to Norman’s Cuttin’ Edge Barbershop in Sewickley for maintenance, which was seen in a video posted to the team Twitter account.

That resulted in a reporter asking about the situation at one of Governor Wolf’s press briefings, with details here from DK Pittsburgh Sports:

In Wolf’s press briefing on Tuesday, he was asked if the barbershop would be investigated for reopening for Roethlisberger.

“My concern is just a general concern,” Wolf said. “Anybody who puts himself or herself into harm’s way is something that I think we have to try to avoid. When you go to something like a barbershop and you’re not protected, I don’t care who you are, the chances of that virus actually wreaking havoc on your life increases.

“I don’t personally think any Pennsylvanian ought to take that chance. I certainly don’t want to take that chance myself.”

Norman’s Cut N Edge Barbershop released a statement on Tuesday evening addressing the issue, and clarified that the beard trim was done as a free favor from the owner, and no money was exchanged.

Here’s the full statement from the barbershop, which was shared via ESPN Steelers reporter Brooke Pryor:

Seems like a nothing burger, but the Eagles play the Steelers in week five, so I think a six-game suspension would a suitable punishment for Ben Roethlisberger’s transgressions.
