Jason Peters Reportedly Turned Down Offers from Other NFL Teams
Meh.
Derrick Gunn was on WIP this afternoon and said the following about free agent left tackle Jason Peters:
“Jason Peters, they know what he is, what he’s capable of doing. From what I’ve been told, Peters turned down offers from elsewhere because he wants to stay with the Eagles. The Eagles want him. Now, you can look at it on the surface and say, well he’s 38 years old. But I will say this; he is that rarity of a guy who, at 38 years old, is still one of the best technicians at his position and is still, I would argue, one of the top 10 players, I think you guys would agree, at his position as well. Granted, injuries have started to pile up a little more, he’s playing 80 to 85 percent of the snaps. But I’d rather have Jason Peters 80 to 85 percent of the time than not have him at all right now.”
Yeah, I guess, but you drafted a left tackle in the first round last year. If he’s not ready to start in season number two, that’s a huge red flag. Maybe 80% of Jason Peters is the better option right now, but does Andre Dillard playing a handful of snaps here and there really get him to where he needs to be? Throw me in with the group of people who think it’s time to hand over the keys and see what Dillard’s got.
