Nick Pivetta came through the bullpen door and onto the field just before the ninth inning in what should have been a 13-1 waxing of the Atlanta Braves last night.

Six hits, six runs, and just one out later, Pivetta’s night was done. Things had gotten weird.

Trevor Kelley was in the game. Incredibly, Phillies closer Hector Neris stood from his seat and began to stretch.

Of course, the Phillies would hang on, sans Neris, because not even a bullpen that has produced a laughable 9.87 ERA could find a way to sneak its closer into the game with a 12-run ninth-inning lead, at least on this night.

After the game, Michael Barkann went after Pivetta on Phillies Postgame Live.

“He is not a major league pitcher. He is wearing a major league uniform. He gets into major league games, but he does not have the skills necessary, possessed by a major leaguer.”

Whew!

I don’t know if Barkann was upset that he had to hang around the office for an extra 30 minutes, had the Phillies to win by six or more runs at DraftKings, or what. But that was a fierce takedown. Maybe he was a bit amped up, but it’s hard to argue with the spirit of his message.

Pivetta, by the way, has allowed 10 hits and 10 earned runs in just 5.2 IP this season. He has a 15.88 ERA.

Tough night for Pivetta. Also a tough night for some other people out there:
